I’m currently a sophomore in high school and want to get into top tier colleges, preferably business/law fields. What are some summer internships/volunteer opportunities I can participate in (considering it’s already July)? I know this is a late start, but I’m also enrolled in a rigorous SAT prep program. Law offices and service organizations seem to be my best choice.
If I can’t get into anything this summer, what should I do next summer (after junior year)?
What about working for political candidates?
For next summer, you could try the Penn Law program!
You could volunteer with your local court system or in a judge’s courtroom, intern with a local law firm, volunteer with an advocacy organization that interests you (homelessness, immigration, gender issues, environmental issues, underprivileged youth, hunger organizations, domestic violence, prisoner legal services, healthcare etc). When preparing for law, remember that it’s a big umbrella that covers virtually any field you can imagine. Nurses become lawyers, engineers become lawyers, bilingual/bicultural people become lawyers, people interested in LGBT issues become lawyers, people interested in finance and deals, the arts of all sorts, etc.
