summer internship - which one to choose?

Since I am not a person who is in investment field, it is Greek to me. Student attends a HYP College. Where could anyone learn more in terms of opportunities that will come later on in life? Someone I know has asked my input for an opportunity to do an internship for this summer in two places.

Person has an opportunity to intern with a small private equity firm that is located in NY City and deals with client who have at least 10 million and above in investment. These people have left Goldman Sachs to start their own hedge funds few years back and doing very well. This is once in a lifetime opportunity and comes with a nice compensation.

Person has second opportunity that involves directly reporting to a budget director in a government entity. The budget director is a very well known investment banker who left Lehman Brothers to work in a political side and getting involved with fiscal policy matters. Monetary compensation is very limited but an opportunity to make in roads with political big wigs.

Student wants to do investment banking and the ultimately to get involved in pubic policymaking. Please provide your input. Thanks

PRIVATE EQUITY all the wayy... its the most lucrative business right now and VERY selective with who they hire.. so this might be a foot in the door if you plan on working in the investment field
