I'm really interested into getting into UPENN. I have an avg gpa, a high sat, and lots of ec's, but that's not what I want to ask about

Last summer, I got an internship at a UPENN research facility. The lab head is a professor at Penn and she absolutely loved me during the time I spent there. This summer, I will be at the same internship at the same lab and will also be volunteering at the hospital at the university of Pennsylvania. I'm sure she'll write me an amazing rec, so I'm just wondering how much this summer stuff will influence my application to Penn. Since I was a little kid, I wanted to go there, and will be ed'ing there

How much weight does this summer internship and amazing rec from a professor count for?

I did an internship in a lab at a different top school, and I know it significantly helped my chances at getting into Penn. While a letter of rec from a Penn professor may hold a little more weight than one from a professor at a different school, it certainly does not guarantee your admission to Penn (although I’m sure it will help your chances at Penn and at better schools in general). The nice thing is that you can possibly use your experience as a talking point in your Penn supplement essay.

The fact that you are getting involved in research while still in high school definitely helps, but it’s no guarantee.

I worked at a Drexel lab and didn’t get a letter of rec (but still put it in my app and wrote about it), and got into Penn. I know others at my high school who worked in labs at Penn and were rejected.
