Summer job/internship without driving?

I'm a current student at USC and I'd like to apply for a job or an internship for this summer... The only problem is that I don't drive. My parents aren't comfortable with me taking the bus alone, and I doubt there would be any internships related to my major in the immediate area. Am I stuck on/around campus (or disregarding my parents), or are there other ways to get around that I'm just not thinking of?

Edit: I also don't have work/study. Would that make it difficult to get a job on campus, or are there typically more job opportunities for other students during the summer?

There are jobs on campus, but most of them are for people with work study. Plus there’s fewer during the summer just because there’s less people, fewer classes, etc. Anywhere else you really do need a car, since the public transit is terrible.

What is your major? Where are the jobs for that major?

Off the top of my head, you should just take the Expo Line downtown. Drops you off at 7th and Hope (?) and you can either just work downtown or switch subways and go to Union Station and then on the Gold Line to Pasadena or some such. The Expo Line also runs to Culver City and there are some jobs there, as Sony Studios shouldn’t be too far from the end of the line there.

Long term, you do need a car though. That’s just Los Angeles, unfortunately.

If you don’t mind me asking, why aren’t your parents comfortable with you taking public transit? I’m a Cinematic Arts major and all of the internships for my particular field of study tend to be in Santa Monica, Culver City, Beverly Hills, etc. If you don’t have a car, public transit is really your only option (unless you want to ride your bike there). The bus/train are totally fine, reasonably convenient, and it’s incredibly cheap.
