<p>I love going to training lol. My first job is in customer service, and the training paychecks are nice. I feel the same way about working in customer service, it isn’t related to my field (I’m pre-med), but I have been working there for so long that I can definitely use it as a safety net =].</p>
<p>Heh, yeah pretty much. Once I really figure out what I wanna major in I’ll start the internship grind, I guess.</p>
<p>Yeah, that’s a good look. I can’t wait to start volunteering and things within medicine, but I need to work right now lol.</p>
<p>That’s the one thing I don’t like about internships, half the time they’re unpaid. Considering my current job could probably be done by a robot and I STILL get paid, they ought to cough up at least minimum wage for internships.</p>
<p>True that. I have wondered why customer service isn’t sometimes done by a robot haha. I mean self service check out is so much easier, but then I would be out of a job. But the fact that internships are unpaid sucks. The experience is worth it, but still minimun wage would be nice.</p>
<p>I’m working as a Summer Orientation Leader for my school…$735 for four weeks, and they put you up in the dorms on-campus. AND they feed you the days you’re working. And we get Wednesdays and weekends as our own time. :D</p>
<p>I’m working on a whale-watching boat off the New England coast. My job is to assist the naturalist on board and answer passenger questions. 18-22 hours a week for $10/hour. I’m really excited about this job, I turned down a $15/hour receptionist job to do it. Hope I don’t regret it!</p>

<p>Whole Foods sounds cool! Well, I mean, better than most customer service places, lol! And that’s a really good tip. There’s hardly anywhere left around here to look at, except maybe for fast food places. Sadly our Whole Foods stores are kinda further away.</p>
<p>So many retail stores don’t want to give you hours, either. That’s another problem I’ve found. They’re all either full time jobs or just 10-15 hours a week, and I don’t want to bother with a lot of the companies looking for full time because usually they want people who are there for the whole year and who want to stick with the company. It’s going to be hard finding people who’ll just accept you for a few months.</p>
<p>I’m going to be cashiering at the local grocery store. Basically, it’s a 20-25 hours/week gig. </p>
<p>I guess I will be more serious about getting a finance internship next year. I completely failed to do so this year, probably because either my resume is awful, or most banks still look down on freshmen.</p>

<p>I’m still looking. :\ I got called back for only two interviews so far, but one stood me up (who does that?) and the other was yesterday, so I’ll see how it went. I don’t think I’d take the second one though, since it’s only a 2 week job, is 50 minutes away and there’s no parking. </p>

<p>You don’t have to be 21 to serve alcohol as a waitress. 18 and have your liquor license or have a supervisor with their liquor license on the ground. Unless it varies by state?</p>

<p>It does vary by state. I mean, the drinking age itself is a state law; it’s just that any state that tried to set it below 21 would lose out on a good chunk of federal money.</p>
<p>In NY you only have to be 18 to serve alcohol though you have to be 21 to drink it.</p>
<p>And an update on my job situation:</p>
<p>I actually started on Monday. My schedule is going to be just Tuesday and Wednesday 9-4 because I don’t actually like the job that much for various reasons including…</p>
<ul>
<li>I’m stuck in an office all day which I hate.</li>
<li>It’s extremely solitary and I’m a social person.</li>
<li>My role in the office isn’t very well defined so it’s kind of like I do whatever anyone asks me to do just because.</li>
</ul>
<p>I’m not quitting though because…</p>
<ul>
<li>The job was created just for me.</li>
<li>It’ll look good on my resume.</li>
<li>It’ll give me good experience with infection control and room cleaning.</li>
<li>It pays better than retail generally does.</li>
</ul>
<p>Since I had put in a bunch of apps at stores, I got some bites and on Friday I interviewed at Urban Outfitters and Claire’s. Claire’s wants me as 3rd keyholder (even though I only applied to be a sales associate), so they had me go on to the next step – an online survey thing, and then I’ll have to do a phone interview with the district manager. As long as she gives them the okay on me, I’ll have a job there!</p>
<p>I got a research assistant job located near my school through work-study. Expecting to make $3500 this summer

<p>I’m doing research with brains and neurodevelopment. I get paid housing and a nice stipend. Last summer I was working four jobs, so having just one will be nice :)</p>

I’m not taking the job for that reason. I’m taking it because I need money and I can’t work in an office all day.</p>

<p>I’ll be working at a food place, part time. I’ll be doing an internship at a hospital part-time (which I’m really excited about. And in July I’ll be taking a class I withdrew from because I was having some health issues at the time.</p>

<p>JP Morgan actually offers internships to freshmen during their freshmen summer, if I remember correctly. But it is very, very, very competitive and usually the URMs get it.</p>
