summer language school

im going to middlebury this summer..i'm gonna be studying russian.
can anyone tell me something about the atmosphere there? do people party? drink? is there anything to do? is it mandatory to participate in your language school's cultural programs (choir, theater etc.)?

thanks for your help guys, i'm really nervous :)

i’m sure there’re parties, given it’s the russian school  from what i hear all language schools are very intense, and i’m sure you know that, so it’s not like you’ll party or drink a lot. you probably will have to participate to the cultural programs as well.
i was accepted to the russian school but chose to do an internship instead. have fun, good luck!

Each school has sponsored, in-language, teachers-come-too kind of parties every few weeks. Then, of course, there are dorm parties and whatnot. There are tons of activities in your language… soccer games between schools, calligraphy in Chinese, volleyball nets all over the place, etc. Some schools put on plays, some have talent nights. They all have something. But you’ll be working your butt off at the same time, so don’t feel too bad if you can’t do everything.
I loved the Chinese school. I definitely understand the nervousness if you’re coming in not knowing anybody, but there are other people in the same boat and you get a few days to get to know people before the pledge goes into effect.
