Same here. Do those waitlists move?

The email seems to say they do, what instrument?

So this is complicated - D24 has been offered an intensive and YAWE, and waitlisted for YAO on both instruments, and waitlisted for another intensive!. Happy girl.

Got acceptance from workshop. Anyone had info on how many kids typically enrolled for the BUTI two-week workshop per instrument, and anywhere to find rough daily schedule? Checked the website but don’t see it.

Waitlists move, no worries! Same pool of kids applies to several summer programs each year, they can’t go to all of those at once!

How long do you think it’s worth waiting on before accepting other offers? Two weeks?

First acceptance deadline looks like 7/3 but some people will decline places sooner aa they know they are doing nyo etc . Some will prob wait for scholarships news next week

You mean March 7 right? The email said 2 weeks.

BUTI asked to respond/post deposit by March 7th, and scholarship award information should come March 1.

Safe to say waitlist will move some after March 7th.

S24 got accepted to BUTI YAO and a couple of other workshops and needs to reply by March 7. He plays the violin and has been attending Juilliard pre-college. His violin teacher wants him to focus on a solo intensive camp which will release results in mid-March. There may be some schedule conflicts. If he is already playing in the highest Juilliard pre-college orchestra, does BUIT YAO give an extra edge to his profile?

A lot of YAO’s musicians are already enrolled in conservatory youth programs/pre-college, before they come to BUTI in summer. Very strong players.

Are you worried about level of musicianship? These kids are mad talented! Don’t worry!

Chance to play side by side with some Curtis kids!

The BUTI ensembles are very strong
both YAO and YAWE. In both, your kid will be playing alongside a group of talented musicians.

My D also attended JPC. No string teacher there will be in favor of BUTI YAO. It’s too much time in orchestra, not enough time to practice and risk of over use injury. (Different from wind players, of course) But it really depends on our son’s goals. If applying to conservatories than probably not the best use of their summer. If not, then it’s a personal preference–do they prefer orchestra, chamber music etc. If you S is a JPC student I am not sure if BUIT will “add” anything to their credentials though it’s more “known” to admissions officers than say Greenwood or something. For a conservatory, resume not very important. Really how you play and possibly who you study with.

BUTI or Aspen?

My D leans toward Aspen as the assigned instructor is “really good”. But Aspen does not offer boarding for U18, nor orchestra. Not sure other than private lesson, what would Aspen look like for U18?

We looked at Aspen - seems to be a lot of spare time for u18s with only one lesson per week potentially and having to stay with them off campus possibly limits the experience (esp for an independent 16/17yo!) . It felt more geared to someone younger wanting to focus on solo practice to be honest but just our take on it

My 17 yo and her teacher decided Aspen only makes sense for her after she turns 18, so she is not applying this summer and will try to be accepted next year. It is very competitive for her instrument, flute, so chances are very slim next year. But more summer residential programs will be open to her as a 18 yo, plus she could apply for staff and volunteer positions in some places next year too.

She is considering BUTI for this summer.
