Summer of...?

I'm a Stanford student interested in finding an interesting activity for this summer, something enriching and possibly life-changing.

As an example, a friend of mine went on an archeological dig last summer through Stanford. Another is going to the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). I'm trying to generate a bunch of ideas and thought you guys might have some good ones. What are your kids doing this summer? What do they wish they were doing? ;)

Thanks!

because S is going to do an REU (research) overseas this summer, through Stanford.

:)

He definitely expects it to be interesting, enriching, and life-changing. It was his first choice, and he was thrilled to get it.

Have you checked with your career services office yet? You may be surprised at what's available once you start casting a net. How about doing an exchange with another school? Does Stanford offer anything like that? Maybe see if you can spend the summer at a college very different from Stanford... out in the boondocks or on an inner-city campus, a LAC or a small state school, or in a part of the country you've never visited. How about something outside your major? S has a friend in engineering at Stanford who came home last summer to work in local government. How about a foreign language immersion course, either domestically or abroad? (It's difficult to know what to suggest without knowing your interests, needs, and resources. I also wonder if it's a little late in the game to start looking--?)

I hope you find something terrific!
