I'm a senior who is probably going to the University of Chicago in the fall (pending financial aid!). I already applied for a NASA internship, but I probably won't get it, so I was wondering what other opportunities are still available for seniors like me who are interested in science (primarily physics).
Anyone?

Bump(please).

Try doing research at a local university. Most deadlines have passed.

I've said this in other threads, but...

-You no longer "need" internships to get into college, and grad school is ages away...

-As a high school student (don't count as a college student yet, sorry!) the chances of a paid internship are slim-to-none

-the good internships (interesting/paid/prestigious) in college all expect prior work experience

...So what I would recommend is just getting a job. Apply to B&N, local clothing stores, restaurants, coffee shops, law offices, etc...it'll probably be boring, but you'll make spending money (which is SO nice for college) and get valuable work experience that'll prove to future employers that you can hold down a full-time job. They realize that if you can manage a boring, unfulfilling job for 8 hours a day that you'll definitely be able to manage a cool, stimulating job as well! It worked for me...I worked at a really boring job last summer after my senior year, earned a lot of spending money and managed to get a really interested, paid internship for this summer!

I could get a local job, I just would rather do something in line with my academic interests.
For further information on the internship: The NASA internship is specifically for college-bound seniors and includes a stipend of $5000 for 8-weeks (housing, food, etc.). The acceptance rate is probably around that of the top universities. There are ten spots at each of the ten or so research facilities. I find out April 15.
I guess I'll have to see. I could definitely work at the local library or Barnes and Noble since they're within bike-riding distances, but I'm unsure of the working ages.
Thanks for you help! Honestly, I'm very grateful.

don't worry, i won't be your competition this year. :P
