Summer Opportunities

I’m trying to be a competitive applicant on my upcoming UC application, so I’ve applied to the Berkeley SEP (Summer Enrichment Program), UCLA’s SITE+ (Summer Intensive Transfer Experience Plus) program, Stanford Summer Session 2022, a major related internship, and I signed up for a REP (Research Experience Program) class for Spring quarter so I’m eligible for the Stanford IRiSS (Institute for Research in the Social Sciences) Social Science Research Assistant Internship Program I applied for.

I’m not assuming I will get into all these Summer options, and I could quite possibly be shut out from all of them. Are there any other Summer options anyone knows of that I can apply to? Any help is appreciated.

Okay, I think I found some resources and I wanted to share them in case anyone else looks for this information.

UCSD has something called University Link. It’s available to students at the following CCCs: Cuyamaca, Grossmont, Imperial Valley, MiraCosta, Palomar, San Diego City, San Diego Mesa, San Diego, Miramar, and Southwestern.

UCSB has Transfer Prep Academy. Applications open April 1, 2022.

UCI’s Community College Program (CCP) has temporarily suspended their Student Services, but plans to reopen April 2022. Email uciccp@uci.edu and transferprep@uci.edu

UC Davis has the Transfer Opportunity Program (TOP). This is another one only available to students at participating CCCs: American River, Butte, City College of San Francisco, College of San Mateo, Contra Costa, Consumnes River, Folsom Lake, Laney, Napa Valley, Sacramento City, San Joaquin Delta, San Jose City, Santa Rosa, Sierra, Skyline, Solano, Woodland, and Yuba.

UCSC has the Transfer Preparation Program (TPP).

UC Riverside has Puente Connection for Puente Project participants.

And UC Merced has a summer program called Transfer Academy. The application deadline for it is March 15, 2022.

A caution here. If you earn units that are UC transferable then those units are added on to the number of units you’ve earned elsewhere. Units earned elsewhere are capped at 70 semester units and do not include AP credits. If you’re just taking one or two classes over the summer you’re probably ok, but the lowest limit for high-unit junior is just 80 semester units so it wouldn’t be too hard to accidently hit it. So be sure to check!

Here is a link with a chart of the limits:

Lower or upper division units earned at UC (Extension, summer, cross/concurrent, UC-EAP, and regular academic year enrollment) are added to the maximum lower division credit allowed and might put applicants at risk of being denied admission due to excessive units.

The latest chart and further info is on pp. 34-36 of University of California Counselors
