I was wondering approximately how many parents go to summer orientation. If your parents went, do you think that the information they learned was critical enough that those who did not go missed important information? Also, how does the housing situation work? I know that First Years stay in Hereford, but are we in singles? doubles?

Any information or insight you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

From the summer orientation website FAQ:

Q: Do my parents/guests have to come with me to Summer Orientation?
A: During the summer of 2008, over 78% of all students brought at least one guest with them to orientation.

My mom went with me to orientation last year. She said that it was a really worthwhile experience for her. Just be sure to book a hotel room for your parent(s) in advance. There are lots of parents there, but the way that the schedule of orientation is set up, you won’t spend a ton of time with them. They have special things for the parents to go to and special things for the students to do.

You won’t spend a ton of time in the dorm at orientation. I wouldn’t really think too much about it; it’s just a place to sleep between the two busy days. Most of the rooms are singles. I only heard from a few people who were in doubles. When you check in, they’ll give you your room key and tell you where it is and all that.

most parents go, they’ll get briefed on a whole bunch of stuff so I’d recommend that they go. If nothing else, they can learn more about the university through the trip.

Does anyone know approx what time it ends on the second day?

On the second day you’ll be going to register a tentative schedule in the class registering system. Everyone is randomly assigned a registration time for the second day. Once you finish registering, you are free to do as you please (once you check out and turn in your key of course). So really, it depends on when your class registration time is as to when you’ll be done on the second day

If I remember correctly you need to get your student ID before you leave which starts around 1-1:30 in the afternoon.
