When does orientation start for the freshman? Is it around mid-June?

Summer orientation begins around mid-June and runs until early September. The orientation in September is usually intended for international students.

I see, and is this where you register for classes?

You’ll meet with an adviser for your major to discuss your schedule, but at least last year, they requested you send in preliminary course selections. Depending on your major, you may have quite a few options, or none at all- Behavioral Neuroscience Majors, for example, usually have a full course load automatically assigned for their first two semesters, and significant parts of their third and fourth semesters.
