My D got off the wait list on Wednesday. This was a very happy day here in our home. She had to wait the 72 hours before she could register for summer orientation. Last night the 72 hours were up so she went to register. There were three sessions she could attend but unfortunately they were not available. The only two sessions open are when she will be out of the country and can not possibly attend.

Anyone else have this problem? My D feels attending orientation is imperative for her transition to college so is overwhelmed with the idea that she might not be able to attend a session. She has contacted the orientation team letting them know her situation and asking for help.

Just hoping she will be able to get in to one of the sessions she can attend.

First off, a huge congratulations to you and your D!!! I’ll bet they will work out the orientation scheduling with you. Have a feeling that there may be some students that need to change their scheduled orientation in the next month (?).

Yes, congratulations! Although Orientation Session H is listed as limited to internationals, etc., your daughter may be able to attend then given the circumstances. For that session, students move into the dorms a couple days before the rest of the new students arrive on grounds (actually a benefit to avoid the move-in day rush). The only thing to know about that session, though, is that those students actually register for classes BEFORE their orientation session. I think it is the day before the schedule reopens to the rest of the University in August.

Yes, summer orientation is just for registering for classes, really, you don’t meet your suite/hall mates then and you don’t really learn your way around yet, and many people change classes after that time anyways. You will really find first year orientation, which is the week before classes start when all first years move in, to be the most valuable. So if she can’t go before then, it is not really a big deal. She will just have to get her ID another time I believe?
