I'm in the middle of my Freshman year, studying as an Honors Student at Fordham University. I've come to realize over the past few months that I'd rather not return home for this summer (and return to the food service jobs I did last year). To my limited, knowledge, there are a couple options I could pursue here:
1. Apply to intern at a literary agency in Manhattan. I'm an English major and studying in the city already, so logistics and interests would line up well. I could also work (and live) at Fordham's Lincoln Center Campus to help cash flow problems. I have a definite interest in publishing at this point, however I think a summer in the city on my own might be a little more than what I am looking for, especially after what is looking currently to be a very busy (but very fun) second semester.
2. Staff at an academic summer program as an RA or TA. I got recruited by these kinds of programs, but didn't really have the funds to make it happen in high school. I tend to do pretty well in mentorship-type situations, and furthermore, the community aspect of this plan appeals to me. One question regarding this option, is I'm not really sure where to apply. I would be interested in working in a non-academic setting, say a traditional summer camp, or arts-focused camp (I have some experience in Creative Writing, Theater and piano), or even hypothetically a Christian camp of some sort. The concern of course is the environment, that is, feeling stimulated and in-synch with my coworkers.
So, if you have a summer program/camp you know and love, please tell me!! (preferably within reasonable distance of the New York/Pennsylvania area)
All input, advice and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
