Summer Program Abroad with Financial Aid

I am going in to 10th grade so next summer I will be a rising junior. I need a summer program aboard WITH FINANCIAL AID or scholarships. I would love to go to Japan but any country's fine :) Thanks! :D

Bumppp  Please I really want to gp and can’t find anything. One more thing I need to learn while there

[KEI: Study Abroad & Intern Abroad](http://www.keiabroad.org/programs/bangkok/academics.php)

I’m actually at this one in thailand right now. It’s a science research internship (thats the only program available for high school students). I didn’t get aid but I know you can apply for it. I don’t know how hard it is to get.

Really??? That’s cool but Thailands not exactly one of my dream countries to visit…

The funny thing is that it wasn’t mine either. I wanted to go to South America or Europe, or really anywhere else. But now that I’m here, I absolutely love it. It’s very modern. If you’re into research the opportunities are amazing. The project I’m doing right now is absolutely amazing and the people have been very helpful. The program is a bit unorganized but if you ever need help you can call the international office and they will go out of their way to help you. also we go on cool weekend trips. Two weeks ago we went to the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, Koh Samed. Next weekend we’re spending four days in northern thailand. I can honestly say this has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I have a new understanding of research and the world. it’s only been two weeks. I have three more to go and Im sure they will be amazing. I’m so glad I came here rather than a traditional trip to europe. And if it helps, everything here is super cheap. a meal is generally around $1-$1.30 and you can buy tons of clothes. Like I’ve bought a couple pairs of sandles for around $3, some shirts for like $3 and some skirts for arounf $4. and theyre really nice too.

I’m a rising junior this year. I know that this is going to help me in so many ways. Hopefully my research experience will help me get another internship next summer. This will help me on my college app. But most importantly, I honestly have a new perspective of the world.

Really? Than I might do this  Do you know of any other internships/camps I really want to go to Japan or England but the problem is it either doesn’t have finical aid or its a home stay and I don’t want to do home stay because I’m sure my parents would not let me

Talk to your parents about it–I don’t see anything wrong with homestays.

The one thing about KEI study abroad you should be aware of is that it is mostly college kids. I’m one of two high school kids in the program this year. As long as you are mature it will be fine. The college kids have been really nice and inviting and I haven’t felt lonely at all. They did say that they want to have more high school kids next year (they used to have 6-7 yearly, idk what happened this year haha).

I don’t know much about other programs. I was really looking for science research internships when I stumbled across this. They also have a hospital internship if you’re interested in that. I actually read about it in a book: What high schools dont tell you. It has extensive summer options, but I dont have it with me, obviously.

But you really can’t go wrong with this. I’m having an amazing time. I don’t know about doing a homestay, but it seems like it should be fine. Any reputable company is not going to put you in a dangerous situation if thats what your family is worried about.

My daughter did this program several years ago:

[Youth For Understanding USA - Scholarships](Youth For Understanding USA)

It was a great experience, and almost all paid for by the scholarship. It did involve a homestay, though. I can’t understand why your parents would not allow that. I suspect most homestays are safer that living in a dorm (at least in many foreign countries). I also think you get a lot more intimate understanding of the culture through a homestay.
