<p>Hi. I was looking into Columbia and was considering applying to some summer courses in the Foreign Language department next year. I was just wondering if any of you attended the summer courses, and found them beneficial, as well as just how are they in general. </p>
<p>On a similar note, how is the linguistics/foreign language program at Columbia itself? Thanks!</p>
<p>Many of the foreign language programs at Columbia are excellent. I especially recommend the extraordinary German department. Columbia actually offers one of the highest numbers of foreign languages possible at any given university. Care for Wolof? <p>Linguistics, however, is a sadder story. The department fell apart some years ago and formally no longer exists, having been spun off to other offices. It's slowly being pieced back together again, however. You can read the story of its rise and fall (and rise again?) here:</p>
