I dont know how to answer that in an abbreviated manner so remember that you did ask! I did choose them as good compliments as they are very different programs. The OSF program has to be the hidden gem for aspiring hs actors.

First a brief background on OSF. They are one of the top regional theater companies in the country. It is top-notch theater. Their actors come and go from NY stages and TV gigs in LA. They have 325 full time employees, 175 part time, 500 volunteers and about 90 professional actors.

This is from their web site:
Founded in 1935, the Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is among the oldest and largest professional non-profit theatres in the nation. Each year OSF presents an eight-and-a-half-month season of eleven plays in three theatres plus numerous ancillary activities, and undertakes an extensive theatre education program. Operating on a budget exceeding $22,000,000, OSF presents more than 780 performances annually with attendance of approximately 360,000.

Their summer institute is a two-week residential program for hs juniors only. Admissions are selective but no audition. Application has I think 8 essay questions and the three letters of recommendation should be above average. The focus is less on stage time and more on a behind the scenes look at being an actor and how a large company operates. Even given that focus I was surprised at the amount of lines they are required to have memorized upon arrival. They will test them on the lines the day they arrive. (Parts from a Greek play, R&J and Tempest)

As you can see below its a busy two weeks. Daughter has 3 days from the end of NCSA to the beginning of OSF so she will be dragging by the end but she is so high right now its not a concern.

They will see 9 plays, this year they are;

Importance of Being Earnest

Oh, and one more thing...pretty much everyone thinks that there's no scholarship program for CMU pre-college. I didn't either, until I got an e-mail from the Ventures Scholars program (something for math and science, it turned out to prove good for something for me lol) that told me about the Summer Academy for Math and Science at CMU...and the full scholarships provided through the diversity program. If a student gets accepted under this program, the scholarship can apply to any CMU pre-college program, including the one for MT. It's just one more essay explaining how you would contribute to the diversity of Carnegie Mellon, but it's definitely worth it, in my opinion. I would think that it's really competitive though, but I have no idea...I'm just really happy I was accepted under the program because my mom would NEVER be able to afford CMU.
