Are there any summer programs that would look really good on a college application? I got a letter from the NSLC (National Student Leadership Program), and I'm considering going to the medical program in CA (I've seen the threads and FAQ on this site concerning it). My mom wants me to do it, but I'm not that interested. I was wondering if there's anything that I could do over the summer that would be more worth while. What other programs are there that are like the NSLC? Are there any jobs, hobbies, charities, volunteer services, etc. that would be more productive? I'm a junior, and next year I'll be a senior in highschool. Thanks.

if you want to do it because you think the experience would be helpful, do it. if you want to do it to get into college, 1) don't do it just because of that and 2) that program won't help that much at all - actually most programs that cost money are usually not the impressive on your resume. only programs like TASP and RSI and NASA SHARP, which are competitive and free, really matter.

Virtually, I think most people get the NSLC and the National Youth leadership Conference stuff..and it's a complete waste of money in my opinion.

Intern with the Congressperson in your district (which I'm doing this summer) or a Senator if you're into politics. Or if you're into science, try to get into a really competitive internship place, like the National institutes of health.
