Summer programs (Astronomy, engineering, STEM, ecology)

Hello everybody! With how busy everything has been with finals, extracurriculars, and the holidays, I now have finally gotten a chance to slow down and plan ahead for this summer. I’m looking for recommendations for summer programs for a female high school sophomore in any of these fields…

  • Astronomy/planetary science
  • Engineering
  • STEM research
  • Geology or ecology

I live in Texas, but would like to learn about programs not limited to just here.
Thank you so much for the help!

Also, recommendations for competitions, contests, extracurriculars, help building a college list, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Some STEM summer programs:

Thanks I will look into these!

also as for competitions: science fairs are good for research, but also consider olympiads if research isn’t your strong suit!

oh and since you’re a sophomore, there might not be a lot of available summer programs in terms of research.
i’d advise you to email a bunch of researchers at a local university to see if you can instead conduct research at their labs over the summer (then you can use your research to compete in science fairs in your junior year)

@butterbear09 great idea thank you!!

@txsmartie54 no prob!

I’ve heard very good things about Rose-Hulman’s Operation Catapult program. It’s open to both sophomores and juniors. https://www.rose-hulman.edu/admissions-and-aid/early-planning/operation-catapult/index.html

@aquapt That sounds incredible thanks for recommending it!

COSMOS, SIMR, and other out of state options. However, there is probably less of a chance for OOS => These programs are mostly Bio/chemistry/Bioinformatics

@hyh789 thank you!!!
