That is awesome! Congrats to your D! My d sent hers in on Januray 5th and we got a postcard yesterday saying her application was incomplete and they were missing her transcript and counselor recommendation. (weird when everything else there and all sent together). When I called today to check they said they do have everything so I am not sure what the deal is. We definitely didn't get an acceptance though. Hopefully soon!

I am so glad to hear that CMU summer has improved its procedures and is letting people know on a timely basis. Dancersmom, your daughter will have a great time. Kaysmom, I am sure you will hear very soon as well.

When I called CMU a few weeks ago to be certain they had received the application, I was told that even though this is prime time for them to be receiving the actual college applications, they had been told in a meeting just the week before that they would be letting people know starting in February if they had their completed applications. I was happy to hear that because there had been so much input on CC about how late they were last year. We were considering OCU as a backup, but really wanted the audition preparation from CMU. YAY!!! I am sure you will be hearing soon!!

I was just reading the Ithaca brochure describing their summer options. It states that MT class size is limited to 10 students. It also says there is a morning session and an afternoon session. Does anyone know if that means they take 10 or 20 kids total? If so, should my D get in her video etc. in ASAP? She already completed the online application but needs to get in the essays etc. I was hoping Ithaca might be a little easier to get into.
Along the same line, how large is the MPulse summer program at UMich?

Just a brief report for anyone applying to the CAP 21 summer program....my D auditioned today and said WOW!! Very cool place, awesome people and an accompanist to DIE FOR!! Very relaxed atomosphere and they do a great job of putting the kids at ease. We will find out in 10 days if she got in or not.

They had a very small group for today (only 5) due to cancellations for weather fears....we left the city at 5pm and it had just started to snow so we got home to PA just fine. Anyone else auditioning with questions, ask away!

PS- We also did our first open call today for HaIRPSRAY- quite an interesting experience - around 300 or so auditioners in the cold.....no call back but an experience nonetheless!

PPS - we also did our first college visit on Friday to NYU - needless to say it is (as I suspected ) the ULTIMATE top of the list! Not a program or school for everyone but then again I have quite the untraditional child!!

I hope your daughter did well!!! I got a similar experience after my summer audition. I applied to many summer programs but after my CAP audition, I knew thats thats the program I wanted to attend!

Mikksmom,
NYU is on the top of my D's "to visit" list and we are thinking of doing so in April, during her spring break. Did you actually arrange your visit through the admissions office, or did you do something more informal? I am trying to figure out how best to go about this. Back in my day (yes, I know, I sound like a granny rocking in her chair by the fire .... :)) we didn't do much visiting of colleges. We just sent away for brochures and chose that way .... :)

I know I did both when I was still in the college visiting phase. I definitely found the guided tours to be very helpful! I also have heard that if you contact Tisch, they have a separate tour of the Tisch facilities and info about all the Tisch programs. I never looked into that, but was told they have that option.

But I would suggest the guided tours through admissions!

It was a very nice tour- well run and informative. The info session took about an hour and then we went on a little walking tour. It was good to hear it all and see it as well ,in context, so to speak. It was impressive! We did walk down to Tisch and should apparently have contacted them before to do a tour there (we didnt know that) but we poked around a bit ourselves. I think for now that is enough. It was our first visit so far.

I also never did the visit thing before I went to college :) - and all we had were catalogs to looks at - no virtual tours for us! Guess all of us fogeys need to wise up here - it is a source of discussion for us a lot as we try to decide when to visit all these fine institutions!

Feel free to ask any other ?'s! And good luck!
Mikks Mom

The Tisch Info. Session, plus a one on one discussion with a current CAP student that they arranged for us before that Info. session

Overnight in dorm with Tisch friend

Observation of 2 dance classes at CAP21 (but you CANNOT arrange that through the school and they do not allow visits to studio classes in general but a friend in the program was able to get permission for her to watch those two classes)

Has the CAP policy changed, do you know? In the fall of 2002, I took 3 students to visit CAP and we were invited (through CAP - or maybe it was Tisch - but the class was at CAP :)) to watch an intermediate dance class of freshmen MT's.

Just an update - my D just received her letter of acceptance to the 2006 CAP21 Summer program. (She auditioned right before the blizzard last weekend!). She was thrilled and can't wait to start!

If any CC'ers are thinking of attending this year or auditioning, let us know so we can try to work together. And any parents can PM me anytime....I'll need lots of support for 6 weeks alone in NYC. But as an NYU student pointed out to me- better 6 weeks now to help solidify the understanding of what college (and college in a HUGE city) will be like than paying for a semester of college!

Congrats to Mikksmom's D....here's to a fruitful and exciting summer. And hey, if I can let my 16 year old daughter from the country live in NYC for college (and if you only really knew me), you can for six weeks!

Coach, forgive me but I never saw your post #513 until right now. I don't know the official policy....with regard to observing classes at CAP. You may be able to observe dance classes only. My D,when visiting in tenth grade (the winter before she applied) did observe two dance classes but her friend who was a CAP student (a soph at the time) arranged it. I recall her possibly getting permission (again on her own, not officially) to see a vocal coaching session but the time of that did not work for us as we had to travel 6 hours home and it was at the end of the day. While not the "official" word, I recall my kid saying recently, when I mentioned her cousin is coming to visit Tisch as a prospective drama student, all the way from Alaska, that maybe she can arrange to have her observe, and my D said something to the affect of "just dance classes" which actually aren't right for my niece as she is pursuing drama, but that did come up and it was one of these brief fleeting phone calls so I don't know much more but she is visiting in about a month and I'll see what she can do via my D's friends in studios, not sure.

My D is planning on attending the New York audition for the BTP summer program tomorrow. The application says the audition (open call) begins at 11am. Does anyone know what time we should arrive? Do they open the space early for signing in and warming up, etc. Thanks.

Our experience suggests that you should indeed get there early if you don't want to spend all day there. It was awhile ago, but I remember getting there around 9:45 and my D was given number 33 or something like that (there were more than 150 kids at the NY audition) and they do use the numbers for the singing and monologue auditions. Dance is done in groups. Can't guarantee it will be the same as this was several years ago, but go early - what else have you got to do at 10am ;) ?

My D auditioned for BTP at NCSA back on February 5th. It's one of the things she is considering for a summer program pending some other options. Her audition time was 1:00....she was there at 12:00 and ended up being in a good spot with that. Theatermom is right....they do the dance first in groups. That took quite a while (even longer in NYC if there are a lot of kids!!!) In North Carolina there were maybe 35(?). They teach the jazz (Fosse) dance first and then tap. Tap is optional. Then you go up and do your song and then monologue. The process was rather long even for just 35 kids!

Brochures for OCU's Summer Programs have gone out. Included is information on how to apply for scholarship consideration. An intensive summer of training and performance are on schedule.

OCU - The new brochure is great! As you can imagine, I especially like the cowboy's picture from Footloose last summer on the page that talks about the HS summer programs :)! Glad someone sent us a brochure.
