Summer Programs - Discussion

Mikksmom -

Congrats! My D did the CAP21 summer program last summer and it was great. Living "on her own" for the 6 weeks was a big confidence booster for her and it also allowed me to get used to the idea. She did much better than I thought she would!! My D made great friends who she is still in touch with and they took care of each other while in the summer program. It also allowed her to get a glimpse of what living every day in NYC is all about. This year, many schools were impressed that she made that commitment and proved that she had the discipline and maturity to do that program. I think it has helped her audition process tremendously. The training was excellent. We went to the open house the last two days and we were so impressed with all of her instructors.

D just got her letter today that she got into CMU pre-college. She is so excited and will definitely be attending. A friend of hers from school got in for acting! I am sure she will try for BTP again next summer!

K...hey I just posted a response to your D's wonderful news on the CMU thread but HOORAY once more :D.

This program isn't as sophisticated as some of the others mentioned here, but I thought I should let you all know about it. I write and co-direct our showcase production and we have a lot of fun.

Our graduates are currently attending or are going to be attending:
Carnegie Mellon, mt
Oklahoma City University, mt
University of Michigan, mt
Webster, mt

and have gone on to attend summer programs in musical theatre at:
Broadway Theatre Project
Interlochen Arts Camp
Stage Door Manor

You might consider DSM as a good launching pad for a more intense training program down the line. We can assist with housing for those from out of town. The price is also very competitive. Just Google it!

xxx,
Mary Anna

I know there were alot of cc'ers at OCU pre-college last year, but is anyone going this year?

DefyingGravity - are you going to OCU for summer? It was a great experience. I know of a few people applying, some of whom read CC and occasionally post, but maybe they are waiting to see if they get into the program before saying anything about it. My son has 2 friends who are currently juniors applying again after attending last year.

Well I am sending my cd in the mail Monday ( seeing as tommorow is Sunday and mail doesn't go out I don't think).

Kaysmom -

Congrats to your D on CMU Pre-college!! Maybe we should correspond a little and compare notes before June. My D is so excited. She has to miss a dance competition to go, but who cares?? Cathy

Yikes! I would think your dance TEAM would care if they had to re-choreograph the numbers for just one person??

Hi. Just wondering if anyone heard from BTP yet for the summer. My D went to the NY audition last weekend and they said they would be notifying people in about a week.

Good Morning!
I asked this on the UMich thread but didn't get any answers. Does anyone know what the MPulse audition is like, other than having to do the monologue and song? Is it just with Brent Wagner? Is there any kind of interview? It is coming up in a couple of weeks and is my D's first college "audition" experience. Any help out there?

I can't help with specific info as while my D is in the MT program there now, she never went to MPulse. But I suggest that you go back over the summer program discussion threads and look for posters who attended or had children who attended and perhaps email or PM them. The trouble (blessing!) is that MPulse also allows videotaped auditions so I don't know if any here auditioned on campus.

Failing that, call Dody Blackstone at MPulse and ask for specifics. I'm sure she'd be happy to help.

Lastly, knowing how they do things at UM, I'm sure the process will be friendly and low key, designed to help all the auditioners relax and do their best.

Break a leg!

hey...so I haven't sent in my MT CMU pre-college app. yet. (waiting on guidance counselor to write letter of rec, but other than that I'm all set) Is that bad? Do the slots fill up quickly? just a lil nervous...I'm a Congressional page in Washignton D.C so I'm living in a dorm a million miles away from my parents(IL)...i have to get this stuff together on my own---and I'm paying 4 it myself, using my Page salary...so this is VERY important to me!! if neone has a clue about how quickly i should send it in, plz let me kno...i want it sooo bad. peace.

kbella... My D is still working on her CMU pre-college application too. Hopefully will get in this eek, but all you can do is what you can and hopefully they'll be room for you and my D. It isn't due for a while so I am hoping this is still soon enough.
Good luck and keep us posted!

evasmom, I'm curious, what is the deadline for the CMU program? We've been reading here about kids who have already been accepted so I'm assuming that it's a rolling admissions deal?

Last year we sent my D's app the end of Feb. She still hadn't heard about her acceptance at the end of APRIL! Shortly thereafter it came, but of course we needed to know much earlier than that about her summer plans, so she didn't accept.
If you don't mind waiting till the last minute to hear, get it in now. I thought they had a cutoff date last year, to get everything in by. Check carefully.

CMU Pre-College does have a cut off date of May 1st. But it is rolling admission and they do mail out acceptances as they receive your information. Good Luck to all applying.

Trying to keep the two related threads together. Also want to point out that Perry-Mansfield sometimes accepts late applications, past the due date. Perhaps others do too? Make sure to check if you missed a deadline, never hurts to ask.

I was not familiar with Perry-Mansfield program - here is the link
http://www.perry-mansfield.org/index_fl.html

IMHO, the website doesn't do it justice. It is an incredible place that D loves with all her heart. Attending helped her in her goals on many levels.

She has a conflict this summer with the schedule, but hopes to return in summers to come. The summer intensive goes through college-age. You can check my earlier posts for more details.
