Summer Programs - Discussion

My S. just received his CMU summer acceptance letter last night. He is totally excited and looking forward to connecting with other CCers that will be going.

He mailed off the application during the second week of February, so this response turnaround is definitely more rapid than what CCers experienced last year. His application was also ready well in advance of receiving the letters of recommendation. It took 4-5 weeks to get those in hand . . . a good lesson for what he'll do differently next year for college applications.

GO TO BROADWAY THEATRE PROJECT

it's the best.

D just received her acceptance to BTP for this summer. She is 16 years old--junior in high school. She is SOOOOO excited. She has been out of dance for 4 months with a severely sprained ankle, so REALLY wants to dance intensely this summer. Applied to BTP as her first choice, and now won't be applying anywhere else for this summer!
YEAH!!!

Way to go NYDanceMom's D! It is so great when things work as the kids have hoped! Sounds like an exciting summer ahead. Thanks for sharing the happy news.

Nydancemom..
What GREAT news....BTP has a great reputation. I know she'll learn a lot! Kudos!

Great news nydancemom! My daughter got her acceptance from BTP today too but has already decided on CMU Pre-College. Maybe next year she will try again and go! I hope your d has a blast!!

kaysmom

Kaysmom, even though your D had already decided on CMU, here is a big congrats going her way on getting accepted to BTP as well! So many fine choices, so little time :D. Seriously, I hope she has a feeling of some affirmation and encouragement at this juncture and that all of these kids have very fruitful experiences this summer. Some great stuff they are all doing!

Thanks Susan....you're right, so little time. She would love to do both!!!

I found out last week that I got into Syracuse University's pre-college musical theatre program for the summer. I'm a high school sophomore. How many kids are accepted into this?

I also applied to Carnegie Mellon's pre-college musical theatre program, so I am also waiting on that. I'll update once I find out whether or not I am in.

Yay, my D got her acceptance letter for BTP this week as well. I have been reading this forum now for 2 years (D is only a HS sophomore) and I feel I am still learning about everything MT. She also applied for NYU CAP21, but since that is a non-audition based program, I guess the odds are pretty slim to get in. Her having it made into BPT feels reallly good though.

Hooray for Jessica and for Camtmom's D! Great opportunities are ahead! Happy for you both! :)

Bumping up

I just found out that I also got into CMU's pre-college musical theatre program. I am 99% sure that I will be attending that, and not Syracuse's.

For any of you who went to this program in past years, can you remember when the notifications of acceptance/rejection actually went out? The site says May 5th, but they want a commitment by May 8th, so I'm wondering if they might actually notify a bit earlier?

Also, any input on the program would be useful. Thanks.

I'll be attending CMU's program this summer. :)

Attempting to keep the discussion thread close to the list thread about summer programs so everyone can find what they need in a quick manner.

Hey I attended Cap's summer program 2 years ago and they told me at my live audition that I was accepted...so I dunno if that is standard or not but I know a lot of my friends were told in their auditions as well. Best of Luck!

I think my question has caused some confusion. My daughter applied to the 4-weeek CAP 21 Program through NYU, which does NOT have an audition. The six-week CAP 21 program, run independently through the studio, does have an audition. How wonderful that you knew at the audition that you were admitted. Unfortunately, there is no audition in this case, so the waiting continues.

I'm still hoping someone who has recently attended the NYU CAP 21 summer program might remember when notifications went out. But I do thank all of you who have taken the time to respond to my post.

Anyone out there with any experience of NYSSSA, the theater program? My S was wait-listed there, and in the meantime he auditioned for the Wesleyan CCY program in MT (thanks for the helpful comments on that program, Bkstge-MT). I thought it might be a good idea to send out one more application, either to Rutgers (Mason Gross) or CMU, which I've learned A LOT ABOUT on this thread. Does anyone have any knowlege of the Rutgers acting program for hs students? My S is currently a sophomore and he is interested in both theater and musical theater, but I think training in an intensive program in either area would be valuable at this stage.

We got our app in early but have not heard from CMU. Is that a bad sign? Also she just heard from Northwestern and did not make the first cut but will be reevaluated in April. Does anyone know what that means and what the acceptance level is for both schools? Thanks. This is nerve wracking-can't imagine what college will be like!
