Summer Programs - Discussion

No answer from CMU Pre-college yet. I am a little nervous now, my D has not applied to other summer programs.

We were talking with my D last night about the need to apply to other MT or Acting programs ASAP. Any suggestions? It is a little late to apply for competitive summer programs, but I believe there should be some options for her. She is also interested in Creative Writing or Dramatic Literature.

As I told you the other thread, look into OCU's summer program - may not be too late to apply.

MotherMoo~ Hang in there, your D will probably be accepted. I remember we didn't hear last year until well into April [EDIT: I went back to the thread and realized that she didn't hear until MAY 18 last year!!!]...and had applied mid Feb. She still got a yes, and unless they have many more aps than last year, I wouldn't worry. Good luck & try to be patient :) (You will definitely need that skill come next year while waiting AGAIN for the mail!)
Maybe they are too busy for summer aps because of regular aps this time of year? Who knowssss?

For anyone looking for a non resident summer stock theater program in Orange County, California I have put some info on the summer program list thread.

Dear MotherMoo,

It sounds like CMU takes it's time to send out their notifications, so you might want to call them to jog them along a bit. But here are two other programs you might want to learn about:

The Putney School Summer Fine Arts program in Vermont has both theater offerings and creative writing offerings, and no audition requirements, and the school has a rolling admissions policy. Stagedoor Manor in New York has an intensive musical theater program and may still have space in one of their three sessions. Students audition for musical theater productions or dramatic productions once they are there.

Sylvie-
If you have websites, etc for these programs, please post it on the big list thread and I will add it in, or you may update the list too, I don't own it, just did it once and you know the saying..."If you do a job once..." :)

So - OCU is still accepting applications for their summer program - but there is a discrepancy between their brochure and website - one has a deadline of April 1st and one is April 24th - I e-mailed them and was told they will accept applications until the 24th.

One drawback is that the 100.00 deposit is not refundable if you end up not going there.....so it is an expensive "safety" - darn....is this typical?

I'm auditioning for the CAP-21 Pre College Musical Training Program next week, and I was wondering if anyone has any information on it, whether or not it is good, bad, etc. Please let me know!

Hey- My D was accepted into the CAP21 program. Very nice auditioners - it was warm and friendly from the start. We auditioned right before the blizzard in Feb. so there were very few folks. They let you know in about a week if all your stuff (recommendations and such) are in.

D cannot wait to attend! Feel free to PM me after your audition and maybe you can meet virtually in advance!

Mikks Mom

MtMama, my mother just called OCU to check up on the applications and Jo-Beth Moad (the lady who runs the program) said they have not even started listening to tapes yet. She said they are still busy sending out notifications for their college musical theater program. She said the deadline of April 1st is when they will start listining to their earlier submissions and sending out decisions, but that they will be on a process of rolling admissions till April 24th, so it is a very good option for those of you who are alte making up your minds, or have been sadly shut out of other programs. Also just as a note, as OCUMtInfo has very kindly posted, they will not be doing Babes in Arms as noted on their website, that has been switched to Bye Bye Birdie. They also have a program for middle schools were they will be doing Godspell Junior.

Thank you Defying for all the info! "Bye, Bye Birdie" will be lots of fun!

I just decided to apply to go back to OCU this summer and e-mailed JoBeth in a panic because I'm currently sick and can barely talk, so the april 24th information is a relief for me. DefyingGravity, two new yorkers in one summer? I don't know if they can handle it lol. jk.

haha, yay for ny . babygiraffeboots, keep me updated if you get in. It would be cool to connect before we go.

Hi..we look forward to seing both of you at OCU this summer!

ocuMTinfo, do you know if they are making cuts in the program this year? The audition tape always confuses me because I know in the past they have accepted everyone.

Hi Baby...the audition tape is important. It does decide who receives invitations to join us this summer. And..not sure where you received the info that everyone gets accepted..but definitely not true. I know of several who unfortunately were not accepted last year. There is a cap on the amount of students who could be accepted, but that doesn't mean the amount has to be reached if the talent is not available.

The deadline for submissions is April 24th.

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone knows the details on interlochen acceptances/rejections. I was just informed that I am on their waiting list. Does anyone know how good the chances are of getting in off there are?/How many are put on the wait list?

thanks a lot!

Im in at OCU- Pre College MT. I found out today!!!

congrats!!

I just recorded my tape today, so hopefully I will be finding out in the very near future.

Thank you! Yeah my mom is like "I want to know if that girl gets in, so we can talk about plane stuff". What songs did you use?
