Last I heard, OCU's 3 week summer MT camp was still accepting HS age boys.

That IS quite impressive! I wish we could get the same for some of the other programs."

I don't have a total like that from my D's summer program, Stagedoor Manor. However, off the top of my head, thinking through the kids I know that she is friendly with who attended...

Some of last year's seniors went to: CCM, UMich, NYU/Tisch (CAP21, Stella Adler, Playwrights Horizons, Lee Strasberg), Boston Conservatory, Emerson, UMiami, NCSA, Marymount Manhattan, Boston University (BFA Acting) and some went to BA programs where they are involved in theater such as Cornell, Penn, Brown, Tufts, Stanford, and Harvard. There are others but these are ones that come to my mind at the moment. They got into others of course but just mentioning where some ended up (admissions included other BFA programs like Ithaca, Penn State, Syracuse).

Of this year's seniors, and I know less of these as my D's friends all tend to be older....I know of some heading to Syracuse, CCM, Yale, Brown, UMiami, Sarah Lawrence, and others.

In the recent past, I know of seniors who went to all of the above, plus to theater programs at Julliard, CMU, Syracuse, USC, and Steinhardt, as well as to BA schools such as Vassar.

So, within the past 2-3 years, there are at least one but often several graduates at those schools from Stagedoor Manor. I don't know any from Stagedoor who applied to Elon, Webster, OCU, UArts, Point Park, Roosevelt, Hartt, Otterbein, UArizona, Baldwin-Wallace, or OU or some others on this Forum's big list, but am glad now to have learned more about these programs and to be meeting students who have attended or visited. I now recommend these fine programs (and more) to others.

And let me add to falloffstage's report on the seniors, the juniors from last year's MPulse are doing some interesting things this summer as well:

At least two are going back to MPulse, 1 is doing Broadway Theatre Project, and 1 is going to NYU CAP 21. If there is someone I'm forgetting, let us know.

I do think it would be interesting to know where some of the alums of other precollege programs (CMU specifically, since that's where I'm going) are headed next year, or are currently.

forevaeva23- I have a friend who attended CMU Precollege last summer for MT who will be attending CCM Drama in the fall. He is originally from Cincinnati.

forevaeva, PM me and i can let you know where most of my cmu prec kids are going. i am going to UArts for musical theater.

To update the juniors from MPulse, it seems that 4 are going back to MPulse this summer; 1 is going to BTP; and 1 is going to NYU CAP 21.

I think that's it. Thanks to falloffstage for the additional input. And congratulations to the seniors. You guys have done so well, and we are all so proud of you!

OCU did not work out for me again this summer. I'm actually happy I'll be staying home though. I'm auditioning for circle in the square's program in june. If that does not work out then I'll either do intensives at broadway dance and master class at camp broadway (if there is space available for both programs) or just spend my days taking dance class after dance class at broadway dance center. Everything happens for a reason.

BabyGiraffeboots...Hope CITS works out for you. I know many who have done it and really liked it. My daughter's voice and acting teachers (back home in VT....they commute) are on the faculty there, as well. Let me know if you end up going.

Hey everybody....well i can seriously say i am in shock...about a month ago i was accepted to do the Syracuse pre-college MT program, but I didnt really want to go because i heard that it wasnt intensive...but i still asked my parents to pay the pre-payment, so that i could find out more about it...today i just got the brochure on the school..and it sounds extremly intensive...
this is what it says on one of the letters that was given...

"Our six-week program is an intensive, full time immersion in the theater arts and is designed for highly disciplined high school students. It is our goal to put you in touch with your own creative powers i.e your body, voice , imagination, thoughts and feelings in order to help you express yourself more fully through the process of acting/musical theater.

Because you will have earned six credits toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree upon completion of this program, the curriculum and grading of the MT program are based on college standards. Therefore, we expect you to attend all your classes, arrive on time , work hard in class, and finish any outiside assignments on time.

The following are a list of things that you will need to bring with you for this program:

1) Two musical theater songs that you have been working on (MEMORIZED)
2) Two contrasting monolouges (age appropriate) that you have worked on (MEMORIZED).
3) Loose fitting clothes(i.e warm up suit, tights, leotards, stretch pants) NO JEANS WILL BE PERMITTED IN CLASS. You will be moving alot this summer! Temperature changes from room to room, so prepare to dress in layers. Bring an umbrella in case of rain- it's hard to work out when your drenched.
4)Lock to use on the locker you will be assigned.
5)Jazz shoes and althletic sneakers/shoes for stage combat class. Kneepads are optional but can be very useful. (althletic supporters/dance belt for men)
6) A bound of loose-leaf blank book.
7) A three- ring binder with clear plastic inserts for your music.
8) Cassette tape recorder and three one-hour tapes for voice and musical theater ensemble class."

thats not everything in the letter....but bascially the most important part...how do you all find it sounds? im right now much more interested in going..cause they teach you acting, voice, improvisation, movement, dance, audition training, stage combat, makeup and scene study..and there will be two public performances.

but im still now sure....lol
what do you all think?..has anybody else applied or is going to the program?

by the way....what is a stage combat class??..lol

byee
Kayla

Kaylagurl-
I don't know about your specific program but youcould ask for an example of a typical day. It sounds similar to other "intensives" to me. Who told you it wasn't intensive?

Stage Combat is learning how to act out fighting in a safe yet realistic way. As a forensics coach who's kids sometimes do acting competitions, I have taken a stage combat workshop so I can teach them and my D had it available at her summer intensive last summer - it is fun and somewhat fascinating. I know how to make it look like I am seriously punching someone and dragging them by the hair! LOL, ahhh the unique talents one develops.

Correction to the MPulse list i created earlier.

We have alum going to MT programs at: Millikin, Elon, UM (4), Western Michigan U, Baldwin-Wallace, NYU Steinhardt, CCM, BoCo (2), Otterbein, and Emerson. Some kids chose not to take the MT route and will attend vocal programs at: UM (2) and Roosevelt and 2 will be attending Northwestern for Theatre.

Our MPulse juniors: 4 will be returning to MPulse, 1 is going to NYU Cap21, and 1 is going to BTP.

If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact me!

CMU's pre-college last summer has at least two, rumor has it at three, attending Julliard this fall for straight theatre. Another to Elon.

Do you know if any of the acting pre-college students were offered admission to CMU? Others have posted that 1-2 students from pre-college mock auditions may be offered admission each year, but I believe those were MT specific.

Susan, were the precollege students in the MT area (for the summer) or in straight theater/drama?

I can't speak to the issue of whether any of the CMU summer kids are going to CMU for college, but I did hear that one boy was offered college acceptance last summer at the end of the program (I think some people posted about this last summer). I also think he may be one of the ones who has chosen to go to Juilliard in the fall.

Yes, one girl was accepted. She also got accepted into NYU, calarts, a few others...I know this because she goes to my school. She will be going to Carnegie in the fall.

NotMamaRose -
The two students accepted into Julliard were both straight theatre (one boy/one girl). I do think that the one (Black) boy accepted into CMU was MT. Also heard he got into Julliard. Happy Mother's Day every Mom!

I'm not sure if any of this "connecting the dots" improves our ability to forecast the future, but, to add some additional info: a Northwestern Cherub from last summer (boy) is among the entering CMU MT class for 2006.

My S has an exciting dilemna ahead: he has to choose between CMU, the musical theater program, 6 weeks, intensive and the New York State Summer School of the Arts in straight theater, 4 weeks. Both programs are terrific, with excellent mentors and good reputations. Any thoughts or recommendations, or personal experiences would be greatly apreciated. He is lucky to have such exciting choices, wishes he could do both. The deadlines are approaching and the pros and cons list seem equal! Mostly pros on both sides....
