Summer Programs - Discussion

Thank you for your response. I will check out CAP21.

Thanks, ksbr27! I think my daughter has discoverd the facebook site and I appreciate all the practical packing tips.

D was waitlisted todayat interlochen. anyone know what the chances are of moving off of it to acceptance? she is in at OCU, but not her first choice. thanks

Interlochen camp acceptances will be going out tommorow! She might find out tommorow, but she might have to wait a few more weeks. I know some people applied for both the academy and the camp, so sometimes when they get into both they go to the academy and not camp, therefore spots open up that way.
Good luck

Rejected from Tisch summer, but accepted at CMU summer program! I'm proud of myself because I'm only a sophomore. =) I unfortunately can't matriculate at CMU cause I'm doing North Shore Music Theatre's summer program, but it's nice to know that I got in!

IHeartSondheim (so do we!): Congrats to you! How and when did you receive your notification from CMU? As a sophomore, my D has longer odds, but we're anxious to know what, if any, options are in play for the summer.

PDXmom---my daughter received a packet in the mail on Saturday from CMU so I'm sure you'll hear soon. Good luck!

Yay! We got word from both Boston Conservatory and CMU that D has been accepted for summer programs. Still awaiting word from Emerson, but it's a happy day here! Now, she'll just have to decide what makes the most sense for her this summer between soph and jr years.

Accepted to Circle in the Square's summer program. That was my first choice, so I'm really excited.

Well, my D is in the wonderful position of having 3 great summer programs from which to choose. She is a sophomore now, so has two summers. Wondering if anyone has input on choosing between Emerson summer MT program and CMU for this summer, keeping in mind that whichever she didn't do this year, she could do next year. (BoCo is the third option, but is limited to vocal/choral and is only two weeks, so that's easier to take a pass on, although it sounds great too.)

Pros to doing CMU this year/Emerson next year:

Would be ahead of the game in terms of audition-readiness, which could be put to work in non-college/community theater auditions junior year.

Would have feedback on things she needs to work on, with more time to improve.

Would not have to repeat the more laborious CMU application process (2 recos, test scores, official transcript, etc).

Emerson is her dream school, and saving it for the summer right before auditions would acquaint her with faculty and school right before college auditions and have her more freshly in mind for recommendations.

Emerson is her dream school and she would be more polished/make a better impression with her skills next year.

CMU has long track record for exceptional summer program. This is the first year for summer MT-specific program at Emerson; facility improvements will enable more dance next year.

Pros to doing Emerson this year/CMU next year:

Emerson seems a bit less hard-core than CMU; workload might be less of a shock.

She would LOVE being there.

Doing Emerson this year would mean doing CMU right before college audition process.

Of course, there are other great programs that she might want to consider next year as well. It's all good...but it's a bit hard to decide what is the best choice for now. It's early, but she's definitely planning to apply to Emerson, which seems like a perfect fit, if by some chance she can overcome the long odds on admission; she has no current interest/plan to apply to CMU for college. She's leaning toward doing CMU this year and says she feels ready to push herself.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone have any experience with this summer program? Students spend 3 weeks creating and then performing an original musical theatre production. The program is coming to our town this summer, and I'm looking for feedback. Thanks.

Yes, my D attended this program right out of middle school 4-5 yrs. ago.
She helped write an amazing musical (which I think might make it one day as the music was/is wonderful and it has already been performed by other schools), AND she performed in it as well. It was fun and different, and she only went for one summer session as she wanted to experience theatre camps and pre-college programs thereafter. Sorry, I can't say what it's like today. I know they're still going strong with this program in the states as well as their study abroad (Sweden & Russia) program.

My d has is debating between OCU summer MT program and CMU's 6 week pre-college program? Does anyone have any recent info on either of these as to which would prepare her best for the college audition process?
Thanks as I am new to this site.

My son has friends who did CMU and were very happy with it. He did OCU and had a wonderful experience. A few years ago, there was a very large cost difference between the two programs. Not sure if still the case. You can't go wrong with either one.

D loved the OCU summer program. She learned a lot. It really prepared her for auditions. The biggest positive is that you work with the faculty. Also Les Miserables was outstanding.

My D also loved OCU.
It is my understanding that while both programs focus on vocal and acting auditions, it seemed that OCU focused more intently on the vocal selections, whereas CMU focused more on the monologues (from what I've read here about CMU pre-college)

i have a few friends who went to the OCU summer program and liked it so much that they go there for school :) so the OCU program from what i hear is really quite wonderful.

I'll be attending Mpulse for theatre!

Congratulations, Monologue! Are you in mpulse for straight theatre or musical theatre? Did you audition in person or via dvd? Good luck this summer!

thanks! I am going for straight theater. I auditioned via dvd. I can't wait I until june 29th!
