Daughter was accepted to Broadway Theatre Dance Workshop. It's a 2 week program, held in Santa Fe, NM and appears to have pretty impressive faculty. Here's a link Broadway Theater Dance Workshop Does anyone know anything about this program, have experience?

I applied for 8 camps and am waiting for the replies from the remaining 7 (I got accepted into BTP). I applied for Broadway Theatre Project, UMICH Impulse, Interlochen, OKCU, NYU:Tisch, CAP21, NYU:Steinhardt, and Carnegie Mellon. Could you rank these in order of prestige/what would look best on a resume? I really have NO clue as to which one is better over another and would REALLY appreciate having some help with it!

I answered your post, madeforthestage, on another thread. Please try to not post duplicate posts on the forum, thanks.

Mommafrog, sorry to not help you with this as I don't know that program but hopefully someone here does. Is this program related to Broadway Theater Project?

Soozie, No relation of the Broadway Theatre Dance Workshop to Broadway Theatre Project -- I just find the two names interchangeable in my mind, so wanted to make the distinction here.

Now I have another question...daughter has received some acceptances for summer, but was curious about Walnut Hill. However...it's getting late in the audition season and it's another $50 to lay out for an audition fee. Does this program still have space, especially for girls? How competitive is it?

Just a question from those who attended or had kids attend in previous years. When do confirmations go out for MPulse and CM? When do the rejections go out?
Thanks

mommafrog, you should contact Walnut Hill directly but my experience from a couple of years ago is that it does fill up quite quickly, so I wouldn't waste any time.

I just received information on a new musical theater camp beginning this summer. Its called The Ranch and located in Northern California. The dates are July 13th August 2nd. The website is saying that registration doesnt begin until March 1st. I know some of you are on waiting lists at other places so you might be able to grab a slot at this camp? If you look at the staff page is says Jacob Brent and Brad Simmons are the artistic directors of the camp and both have worked at Stagedoor Manor for a number of years. I checked with a friend of mine who went to Stagedoor and they say these are great!

Artsranch.com

I had no idea that Jacob and Brad started their own summer program but I know them both quite well since both have been at Stagedoor Manor for many years and my daughter worked with both quite a bit. She also has seen them occasionally in NYC. They definitely are very experienced. I looked at their site and it seems like they are patterning the program after SDM. Good luck to them in this new venture. Considering that SDM is full and has been for months, this new program may be worth a look, even though it is brand new. These two guys have been doing this sort of thing for a long time.

2nd*2theRight - Looks like a really fun program! Jacob just finished directing a show some of D's friends are in, and he did a great job.

MTgrlsmom, where was that show? Jacob is SO great. My D loves him. She has been in shows he has directed and also has had him as a dance teacher. I remember when she first met Jacob years ago and was quite young, she was in awe that she was working with Mr. Mistoffellees (she'd kill me to mention this but when she was about 8, she was very into CATS). :D

EDIT....I'm now realizing you must mean in San Jose, not NYC. Jacob had been living in NYC previously.

Soozie - scratch that, I stand corrected and found out that Jacob is actually the choreographer for a local production of The Producers in the East Bay. Rave reviews!!!

This may seem like a silly question, but oh well: I know parents usually go with their kids and hang out at BFA auditions, but what about summer program auditions? Does the same go for those?

claire - I traveled with my D, and hung out in the car or back at the hotel with a good book :D. There were plenty of parents, who sat in respective holding areas, but also lots of people who had traveled alone.

Thanks, that's good to know!

Yikes! Daughter had originally planned to audition for Walnut Hill Summer Theatre this year, and had asked a couple of teachers for the required recommendation letters. Daughter has received other acceptances, and decided on a different program, but her drama teacher let her know yesterday that she had mailed the recommendation directly to the Walnut Hill program. What's protocol here -- should daughter email Walnut Hill, to state that she ended up not applying this year? (She is interested in applying to the program next year...). She had the application fully ready to go, audition DVD burned, and the day before we were going to mail it, she received notification of acceptance to the other program that she will attend. (As a mom, I'm happy to save the 50 buck application fee.) Or do programs like this often get "homeless" recommendations? Gee -- do you think they'd save it for next summer? (It's always such a pain to have to hit those teachers up for yet another letter.) Thanks for insight. She definitely is interested in their program, just not this year, and doesn't want to burn any bridges, or come off flighty.

Has anyone here been to the CAP21 Pre-College Musical Theatre Summer Program? I have been accepted and would love to talk with someone who has gone or has heard anything about it.. any info would help!

Thanks :)

There are threads on the CAP21 summer program where those who have attended have posted....you can find them under the NYU/Tisch MT forum at the top of this forum.

madeforthestage- I went to the CAP21 program last year (audition based) and I LOVED it!!! I would be happy to answer any questions you have! Like soozievt said, if you check in the thread about CAP21 summer programs you will find more info there. I actually just left a pretty lengthy post that you may find quite helpful. Again, any questions - just ask! I would love to talk about my experience.

I know that the summer Cherubs program looks at both academics and theater background, but does anyone have a general sense of how academically selective it is?

I would not let academics keep you from applying. I know of some kids who got in last summer with somewhat lower stats (kids who would not even think of applying there for the college itself) so go for it!
