Summer programs/Emerson vs UARTS vs. Boston Conservatory

I know alot of the 2013 parents are busy with auditions, however if any of these parents have time along with the 2014 parents I would like to ask the following:

We are looking at summer programs for Summer 2013 and wondered who may have had experience with the three mentioned programs. Just to refresh your memory, my daughter is a junior and is an acting major mainly into acting for TV and film, however, enjoys contemporary stage also. She has already attended a few other programs with the last one being North Carolina School of the Arts (Summer 2012).

UArts is a new program for us and the summer program looked rather interesting and the price seemed to be the most affordable. A very strong possibility.

Emerson is a school I noticed mentioned on many of the threads for the 2013 class and also under the Film section. I thought looking into a program with both a strong acting and film program would be a plus since her main interest is in Film and TV. I also noticed that the summer program helps them prepare for auditions.

BC also has a program and I noticed quite a few people mention their kids attended the summer acting program and enjoyed it.

I also looked into the Minnesota program but it is shorter so I am not sure that is what she wants.

We are going to opt out of the NYU program this summer due to the high cost. (Around $10,000)

She is set up to audition for NYSDA, however, I have not heard a whole lot of good things and along with the high cost and low scholarship awards this may be low on the list.

We also contemplated not doing a summer program and just concentrating on preparing for fall auditions and application. However, I think my daughter would do better in an actual program with a daily schedule and intense training.

What did some of the 2013 acting seniors do the summer before senior year?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Threed, can you clarify whether you’re referring to Boston Conservatory, BC (which is Boston College), or Boston University? I think you might mean the last one; several posters here (including me) have referred to our kids’ experiences at BUSTI last summer. Mine also attended the U. Minnesota program in 2011. Feel free to PM me with specific questions; both were great programs and they were quite different! BU was ideal for the summer before senior year, and I know many people feel that Carnegie Mellon’s summer program is also a fantastic preparation for the audition process.

Threed – my daughter did the teen conservatory at Stella Adler two summers ago and Carnagie Mellon last summer. She loved both though I would not recommend the Stella Adler one for the summer before college as it is not quite as focused on college audition prep. The CMU one though is not cheap though. It is less than NYU but that is probably the only program it is less than. I have heard good things about Rutgers’ program.

CORRECTION: Times3 you are correct in the latter. I was referring to the Boston University program which is called BUSTI.

ACTINGDAD: We did look into the CM program, however, it was less appealing to my daughter as she thoght 6 weeks was to long. She seemed to prefer programs between 3-5 weeks as she looked for progams to apply to. Thanks for the Rutgers suggestion, she did check this one out online, but has not made any comments yet.
