Summer Programs or Internship Programs (Free) for Humanities/Poli Sci?

I already am applying to TASP and am trying to get an internship with a Senator, but are there any others? A lot of them are paid courses at colleges, and I would rather avoid paying for anything.

I think all three of these would be excellent for you if you are planning to enter a field/pursue a degree in the Humanities and/or Political Science. I have applied/am applying to all of them, as well as TASP (I plan on studying Int’l Relations, Arabic, and Spanish in university, if that helps at all for context). Good luck!

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) offers scholarships to study a critical language abroad over the summer (and also for an academic year, if that interests you). The scholarships are merit-based and funded by the Department of State. Unfortunately, the application cycle for the 2018-19 programs already ended. Check back in the fall (around October) for the 2019-20 app: http://www.nsliforyouth.org

Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) provides a “four-week fully-funded exchange program to talented Iraqi and U.S. students who demonstrate leadership potential and civic engagement in their communities” from June to September 2018. It “takes place domestically in the U.S throughout different program locations in Vermont, a host community, and Washington, D.C.” and consists of activities oriented around team-building, leadership training, and all that jazz. Both Iraqi and U.S. students can apply; assuming you’re a U.S. student, the deadline to apply for U.S. students only is January 31, 2018 (11:59 PM EST): https://iylep.org/iylep-high-school-english/

[Disclaimer: If you’re against the N.R.A. or shooting sports, don’t apply to this one! Also, you don’t have to participate in shooting sports or be a member of the N.R.A. to apply; but you have to be down with the Second Amendment and able to defend it. This is definitely not a good program for you if you’re pro-gun control. Also, this is only for Sophomores and Juniors.] The N.R.A.’s Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.) is “an expenses-paid, week-long educational experience in Washington, D.C., held in July”. Participants take a tour around the capital, “engage with political leaders, visit historical monuments, and apply their skills in competitive debates, all to enrich and inspire the future of our nation” as well as vie for $55,000 worth of college scholarships. Applications must be postmarked by January 12, 2018: https://yes.nra.org

I hope that helped a bit!
