I have a dilemma. Should I do NJ Governor’s School of Sciences (very fun, 3 weeks residential) or Rockefeller SSRP (7 weeks more structured research)? I’ve been accepted into both. Which looks better on college apps?
My daughter was excepted into NYU precollege summer program. It comes with great expense, we can only afford for her to take 1 course in the 6 weeks she will be there. She did receive a small scholarship but it’s still a stretch for us. Looking for any kind of advice if this is worth it. She will be a senior next year and NYU is her first choice.
@bluuberrymuffin I would say the SSRP. You could get a competition ready research project out of that program
@momofadaughter1 I would advice to stay away from any precollege summer programs as a way to up your d’s profile, unless she really wants to learn it. typically, you can find a lot cheaper alternatives. nowadays, i believe those precollege programs are just ways for colleges/universities to make extra $ during the summer, and does not add any prestige because anyone who is willing to pay, can play.
Hi, I got into LEAD Summer Business Program at University of Michigan(Ross School of Business) for Summer 2019 and I’m not sure if I should do it. Like will it look good when I’m applying to colleges. I’m going to be applying as business major. I’ve heard great things about the program but those were all comments I found like over a decade ago. Should I do it???
LEAD is quite a good program giving you a flavor of business school. It is consistent with your interest, but it probably won’t look outstanding in your application as it is another set of classes you take. Have you thought about doing internship with real business?
What are some stem (particularly researchy) summer camps for rising sophomores (for next year)? Almost all the ones I see out there are for juniors and or seniors. Only, a few, like SSP, say sophomores can apply, and even then, preference is understandably given to juniors. I know about RSI and all the science olympiad camps (MOP, USNCO Camp, etc.) What other prestigious, good quality camps are available to me?
Hello, in March I was admitted into Carnegie Mellon SAMS for their 2019 summer immersion program. Today, I received a phone call alerting me that I had been accepted into USC Bovard Scholars. I’m reaching out to inquire if anyone knows which program is BEST. Currently, I believe CMU SAMS to be the better option, but I would greatly appreciate hearing anyone’s opinion on the matter. Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you all!!!
Congrats on SAMS!!! I applied to but got waitlisted and then accepted to USC. I think SAMS would offer more unto what you want to do in the future rather USC which will give you more of college readiness advice and help.
Check out AI4All programs. Some of them are open to rising sophomores.
If you are interested in writing or journalism, the Medill Cherubs program is amazing! It is competitive and really challenging. But the people are incredible and you learn SO MUCH. Highly recommend. They always say that it’s the best summer of your life, and it’s true.
Has anyone attended the Garcia Center for Polymers at Engineered Interfaces? It sounds like a really cool program (but super comptetitive ) What are your thoughts?
Would this be a part of the UChicago summer session?
Has anyone done the Air Force Laboratory one, and what did you think of it?
I would be interested in these too for rising sophomores? Any suggestions ?
Any good programs during the school year? I know DDA (Disney Dreamers Academy) applications were already due but are there any other programs like that?
Can any sophomores who got into summer science program for biochem share what they did if they don’t mind?
There are many programs like RSI , COSMOS etc…depends on what you are interested in.
