I am a ninth grader interested in pursuing biology. Over the summer, I want to join a summer program in the field that focuses on research and learning. I understand that there are many programs out there that simply take applicants on the ability to pay and a select few that are competitive and truly add value in learning and on a resume. Since I am a freshman, can anyone please advise me on some programs, either from experience, prior knowledge, etc. A lot of the good programs like YYGS and RIBS don’t accept applicants in ninth or tenth grade. Thanks for your time and help!
@EdwardKenway if located in the NYC area, look into the Cold Springs DNA Learning Center as they have fantastic classes to get you started on some background in DNA, leaving you in a great position to apply to some of the selective programs next year as a Sophomore (and you reach the magic age of 16 that most labs require for participation). If not in the NYC area, suggest looking for similar programs that provide some basic research opportunities. Good luck!
Actually, my family is an ex-pat family living in India for my father’s overseas assignment. I will continue my final year of high school in India. So any place in the U.S. is fine.
