Summer Reading Suggestions

I second Haruki Murakami. His books are stunning. I would start with Kafka on the Shore or Norwegian Wood. But they’re all good.

Haha Ayn Rand always seems to get such a hard time. I thought Anthem was wonderful.

thanks for the continued suggestions guys! I’ve heard mixed things about Anthem, I had the option to read it in a sophomore english class, but instead chose Melville’s Billy Budd (which I really enjoyed).

and read Virginia Woolf because she’s just awesome. Stream of consciousness FTW! :p

Started reading grapes of wrath yesterday after seeing people suggested it and Im at page 96 right now but its still pretty slow

Game of Thrones. Watch it as you go along.

I suggest reading some non fiction as well.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, or The Importance of Being Earnest, if you like dry humor.
I highly recommend The Perks of Being a Wallflower, especially since the movie is coming out soon.

I liked Anthem. :(

Also, I read 1Q84. First Murakami book i’ve ever read. I quite liked it.

thats the new one isnt it?

Yep! And I must say, the English cover is so pretty. Love the sleeve design.

really want to read it! You should read Ishiguro too. He isn’t too much like Murakami. Some of his stuff is very English like Remains of the Day. But Pale View of Hills is brilliant as well and has a greater Japanese presence in the writing.
