Summer reading?

so, penn doesn’t have any summer reading for us?

there's the penn reading project, but many don't actually read the book... though it's bad to look stupid in the discussions...

check this site in a couple weeks for info for this year:

The Penn reading project is a joke. It has no effect on anything. You have a random discussion section with a random person which has no bearing on anything. Read the book if you're interested; otherwise don't waste your time.

Definitely read the book. It's going to suck if your "random person" is Amy Guttman. (A lot of important people take sections of kids to discuss the book.)

i happened to have a professor who studies benjamin franklin / teaches a class on him / is writing a book about him. fortunately he was nice and didn't care if we read the book, but trying to bs through the discussion would have failed miserably with this guy.

The point is it doesn't matter if you look like an idiot in the discussion section. It means absolutely nothing. And your odds of your random person being Amy Guttmann are about 1 in 100.

I didn't read the PRP book last year - what happened was I just sat there and other, more charismatic people BSed the discussion for me.

Remember to say "mutually exclusive" alot - it makes you look smart.
