Summer reading book?

does anyone kno if we have a summer reading book? my friends having been receiving their’s in the mail…

Yeah we do...Its the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin!!
We should be recieving it mid summer time! like around late june early july!!

Interesting stuff.

sigh... great!!! rolls eyes

***. i thought we were DONE with high school.

for college...impossible...mayb no t

well do u kno if we just have to read the book, or if we have to write an essay... my friend goin to cornell has to write an essay... lol

Haha. You don't even have to read the book. Nothing is going to happen if you decide not to. However, it seems like an interesting book, and there will be a discussion session by the end of summer.

I think it's probably worthwhile to read the book. Although most of my class hated the book we had to read last year, it had so many random stories and points that all year people were referring to it... it's one of those fun things that everyone has a common knowledge of and thus becomes easy to talk about or just make fun of. My hall's formal book discussion was pretty poor last year, but I'm still glad I read the book for the reasons I just stated.

Also, Penn has an entire committee devoted to figuring out which book freshmen should read... they pick good books (or at least interesting ones...) so you'll probably find some enjoyment in it.

Finally, last year the Undergrad English Society started the "Blue and Red Reading Project" over Winter Break, in which they pick a book for anyone who wants to to read over break, come back for spring term and go to a discussion on it. For that reading project they try to pick a book lots of undergrads want to read but never have. Last year they chose "A Clockwork Orange," and a lot of my friends and I decided to read it and go to the lecture... it was much, much better than the Freshmen reading project, and I'd highly recommend participating in that when it comes around.

As mentioned, don't sweat it if you don't read the book. It has absolutely no effect on you when you get there. When I went to my assigned discussion group, I could easily tell half the kids there hadn't bothered to read the book either. No biggie.

You will also find links for last year's book "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell and an archive of all the past books chosen for PRP.

like other people have said, nothing is going to happen to you if you do'nt read the book.. but it does give everyone a little common ground.. we really did refer to things all year from the book, though I don't know if that's a common thing each year, or if it was just that the book related to a lot of things. In any case, it won't take more than a few hours out of your summer, so why not?
