Yo, who’s reading the recommended reading, “Philadelphia Fire”? Who’s not?

I'm not. The way I see it, they only recommended it. We don't "have" to hehe. Plus, I rather read other books, as that one doesn't interest me in the slightest.

im reading it, but only because im from philadelphia and will feel stupid if im unable to discuss a book based in my hometown. i bet a bunch of people won't read it though, it's not as though we're going to be quizzed on it or anything.

we have summer reading? I didn't hear about this...

ew, urban literature

but I already bought a copy so I'll read it

how come I didn't know about this summer reading?! I feel so out of the loop.. I never know what's going on! what other reading is there??

lucy,

My son just got a postcard about the summer reading in today's mail. I bet yours will be there soon!

its also mentioned in the orientation pamphlet. I started reading it, have read 40 pages (out of 200), and so far I like it. Given we're having a 2hr meeting with this book being a main topic, i figure it's worth reading so I won't be bored into oblivion.

is that the only book we're required to read?

Anyone care to inform us '08ers about this Summer Reading business? It sounds close to being un-Brown to me...

I'm pretty certain that it's not required. John Wideman is going to be a speaker for our orientation and apparently, he'll be discussing his book, so it's "recommended" that we read it.

I don't think we're actually required to read anything. The post card simply said that they suggest we read it. Personally, I'm not going to. :) Call me a rebel! GRRRRRR. (I'm not really a rebellious person, it's just that the book doesn't interest me and it didn't say the word required.)
Charlie ;)

ok, we go to Brown people, nothing's required really =p and that's the beauty, but if you're interested, go ahead and read it, that's pretty much the deal, and maybe you can chat it up with the author, but me for one, not going to read it probably, too much other stuff to read

Mcsingh, the book is being discussed at one of the orientation meetings. '08ers need not worry.

In my experience, Philadelphia is not a fruitful source of literary inspiration...
