just doubting about summer school. Do you actually receive one based on your academic potential from a college or do you need to submit something? I have a friend that got a letter from Harvard for summer school. Dunno. Does anybody know how it works?

well, if you didnt get a brochure like your friend did, you can just request the information packet with application online. I requested mine for harvard summer school but ended up not going because i figured it wasnt worth 10,000 dollars. i dont know.
but go check out their sites and request the applications, write the essay, ask for recommendations from counselors and teachers and send it back. kind of like college app? haha maybe not.
my friends are applying for harvard summer school as well

UChicago's was amazing.

but is this fairly similar like college, I mean by acceptance/rejections etc. do you actually get accepted or rejected?

and by taking summer classes in high school year higher your chances to get into the college you went for summer school, right?

well, i heard that even ivy league programs like harvard, brown, penn, yale etc programs arent very competitive. they want your money, even though its probably more worth it than other summer programs that are scams. As long as you have solid grades and have good recommendations/essays, you will be accepted (harvard takes 1000 kids, compared to 500 or less in other programs).
but im sure if you are a straight D student, you probably will be rejected.
and it doesnt increase the chance of getting into that specific college.ive read alot about summer programs on CC because i was looking for one as well and alot of kids who attended harvard ssp thought that it was worth 10K. and it definitely doesnt help you in admission..it will however, let the adcoms know that you havent wasted your summer watching tv and swimming. its good also, because you get to live on a college campus (maybe its your top choice college) and get college credits.

For a good, academically sound, more affordable program where you can take 7 college credits at Washington University in St. Louis for 5 weeks for around $5000, half of what the Ivies charge. Name is the High School Summer Scholars Program. It is much smaller than the other programs, with around 100-150 students in each of the 2 sessions.

Does anyone know of a good summer program (preferably on the West Coast) for high school students intereted in classics?

Alex M

I don't know about classics but I know Stanford and UCLA have summer programs.

All of the UCs have summer programs. I recommend investigating each individual UC's web site and looking in their list of courses for their summer sessions that high school students are eligible to take.
