so i have this question about summer school. im a senior, graduating in about 2 months, and summers coming up. My question is how do i know what classes to take during summer school in cc? for the fall of 2010, im debating whether to attend another cc or to ucmerced. Also, as im registering online, it ask me what major will i be pursueing? im planning on majoring in the field of science, but i want to take a history class during summer. since im going to be dealing with the general ed stuff, should i just pick a class under the history section or are there specific classes i need to take? everythings so overwhelming with the due dates coming up.

edited: since im planning on majoring in the field of science, to be more specific, biological science, should i take intro chemistry instead of history?

^ it really doesn’t matter what major you pick, you can take any class regarldess (except math and english which have placement tests). Just enroll and then go to your counseler when classes open up at the CC and see what class you want to take.

your better off taking history because chances of you getting the chemistry class are slim to none. but if you can manage to do so…then by all means, do chemistry.

are u planning to transfer out of a CC/UC to another UC?
if you are go to [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) and go from there.
it will tell you everything about all the classes you need to transfer.
as for your major, you can put undecided for a CC. they dont care.
your major doesnt affect what classes you can/cant take.

and yes there ARE specific classes you need to take to transfer.
IGETC/ASSIST is what you want to follow for UC’s

I wouldn’t recommend taking any courses during the summer that are important courses in your major. Chemistry is usually pretty intense and being that you’re going to be a science major, it’s probably better to take Chemistry in the Fall. At my CC, the summer Intro to Chemistry course is 5-6 hours a day, four days a week for 6 weeks and at least 20 hours/week on top of that dedicated to homework–pretty overwhelming for a senior just starting the college thing.

During the summer, I’d take the GE courses you’re least interested in taking. Get them out of the way quickly. You might want to find out if any courses you’re planning on taking in the Fall have prereq courses that you need take before you’re able to actually enroll in the class. If you need to take a math course before you’re able to get into the Chem course, take that.

Also, research the teachers for the classes you’re thinking about taking during the summer. Generally, there aren’t as many teacher’s teaching summer courses and sometimes the best ones aren’t there during the summer.
