@matchakite When did you get yours? I’m still waiting.
@warrior05 ah oops I guess not all are out yet. I got mine this morning with an email.
FAQ from the website says
Q. When and how are decisions announced?
A. About 5-6 weeks after the deadline, we will update your application status and email decisions to applicants.
Did anyone from the alternate list receive an email stating that you are on the alternate list? My son application status says he is on the alternate list but has not received any email.
@SebaRaj I received an alternate list email
Here it is:
"The Admissions Committee has voted to place your application on the Alternate List for the 2018 Summer Science Program. We are confident that you are qualified for and prepared to benefit from SSP. However, we cannot admit everyone who is qualified.
Our enrollment process is not complete. We await confirmation of enrollment from applicants who were recently offered admission. While we cannot predict the probability, and we do not rank the Alternate List in advance, there is some chance that you will be offered admission in the next few weeks. If so, I will email or call you immediately.
We understand that you might need to make definite summer plans before we have resolved your status. Do not let another good opportunity slip away while you wait. If and when you wish to withdraw your application from further consideration, please let me know by replying to this email.
We appreciate that you made a significant effort to prepare your application. It will serve you well as practice for upcoming college applications.
Congratulations on your fine record, and thank you for your patience. Although this decision may be disappointing to you, I hope you will view it as a positive response to your qualifications. This outcome reflects the extremely strong applicant group from around the world, combined with our unique admissions criteria and the inherent subjectivity of any admissions process."
@astrolakers Thank You… We will contact SSP.
Just curious, have any other alternates received any news? Seems like alternate decisions are coming out rather late.
@hoolaboola , Are you in a waiting list of Biochemistry or AstroPhysics?
@YodaBioChem I’m on the astrophys waiting list.
@drsrake6477 Congrats on those amazing acceptances! MITES has been around longer, while biochem has only just been released. However, the biochem program is already well-tuned, and does carry the powerful SSP name behind it. Frankly, I don’t think you can make a wrong decision here. Biochemistry saw acceptances for every student into very strong college. I will say this much: although I haven’t attended MITES, SSP is legitimate, hands-on research, and you will learn and be challenged more than you ever thought possible; MITES seems to simply just be curriculum.
has anyone gotten in off the waitlist yet? Have all the fin aid decisions come out?
@astrolakers , hope students from the waiting list will hear from tomorrow
So no one has heard back yet?
@kyang8093, Are you on the waiting list of astrophysics?.
Yup, astro @YodaBioChem
@YodaBioChem are u also on the alternate list for phys?
@hoolaboola i mean… they do have “biochem” in their name so I would assume not
same, when do final decisions come out?
Got into NM Tech off of the alternate list!
congrats, @chrish5
Hey I have a question. To give some context, I am from Michigan and just finished working in a lab at Michigan State University for about a year and half now.
I was accepted into the High Schools Honors Science Program (HSHSP) at Michigan State University.
I was also placed on the waitlist of the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University. Unfortunately, I was not pulled off the waitlist; however, a professor there has offered me an independent research opportunity and the research is quite fascinating and promising and in a different field than my previous lab. The program directors said that I can still partake in all of the Simons program activities and I have access to Simons housing and food options.
I am having trouble deciding between joining a program at a university that I am already familiar with (and I would probably conduct research in the field I did my previous research in because of how I structured my application) or pursuing the independent option in a new place and conducting research in a field that is more interesting to me.
Could I still mention on my college applications that I was accepted to HSHSP if I choose to do the independent option at Simons?
How seriously do colleges take program prestige? I know that both programs are great and I would have a great time at either, but I also want to make sure I make the best decision for enhancing my college applications.
Please let me know if I need to elaborate on anything. Thank you for any input you may have!
