Purdue biochem!!
Accepted to YSPA, rejected from SSP (I think I wrote about different topics/essays for each). Just curious, where does the 6 percent acceptance rate figure come from?
Would you mind sharing your D’s stat?
@AvengersEndgame I’m an ssp alum so I might be a bit biased if Yale is your jam, go for it! The difference between the programs might just be nominal at the end. SSP has a better foundation as it is an established program, meaning it (generally) has better faculty and resources. (the yspa director isn’t looking so hot on rate my professor) Cost and location may play into a deciding factor also.
I would recommend ssp over yspa if you get accepted to both. But overall both are great programs!
Would you mind sharing your scores and stat? Many thanks,
Hello, I’ve been accepted to both YSPA and SSP! Marking this to see any more opinions about which program to attend. I’m still extremely stuck about which one to choose.
For any future applicants that might be lurking or anybody that’s curious, I really think my scores are inferior compared to a lot of the people I’ve seen posting theirs on here or the 2018 thread (and I didn’t really discuss any of my extracurriculars- which by the way, are also pretty weak compared to others I’ve seen). So I’m really surprised at my acceptance. But my counselors told me that my essays were probably some of the best they have ever read. So definitely don’t underestimate that aspect.
@kuotian which campus?
Between SSP, YSPA and ISSYP, which one is the most prestigious/the best to go to?
@stars1234 imo SSP > YSPA > ISSYP
Out of these 3, ISSYP is the least well known. SSP is the most famous since it’s been around for so long.
@stars1234 @16 MIT lists SSP and ISSYP on it’s website, but not YSPA.
For anyone who knows alternates who have gotten in or been an alternate, around when did you hear back? I know last year they officially told whether/not you got in around end of May, but for the alternates that did end up getting in, did they tell you that very soon?
Is ssp better than yspa even though ssp has around like 11% acceptance rate (140 something/1300 admitted) but yspa had around a 6% acceptance rate last year (32/531) and probably even lower this year? I know there is a greater history of ssp but im trying to decide between the two
Accepted to Astrophysics at Colorado!! I hope to meet all of you there in june
Ugh I got waitlisted. It’s killing me. So close yet so far…
What are the odds of getting off the waitlist? Also when do they let you know by?
there was someone on the yspa 2018 chat that said that the yspa head told him that 531 people applied last year for 32 spots so this year its probably around 600-700 people for those same 32 spots.
@dumbo18 what are you waitlisted on: bio or astro?
@AvengersEndgame Acceptance rate isn’t everything. 1700 people applied for 12 spots at Clarks, and that’s a lower acceptance rate than RSI, but RSI is generally considered “more prestigious” than Clarks.
@sublimekorean Colorado!
@kuotian I think SSP is generally considered to be more prestigious since it’s been running for longer
