Summer Science Program (SSP) 2009

This thread is now for waiting... and "coulda-woulda-shoulda"-ing. :)

I hope my relatively low Math standarized test scores won't keep me out. I mean, all of my scores are perfect- except for a few points in math. So I look like a strong humanities person...

So, ahh, anyone read any good books lately? ;)

I'm reading some of the more obscure Salinger stories now...I fell in love with his style in Nine Stories and Catcher In the Rye...

Are any of you really into literature like I am? I feel like I should be posting at the tasp thread although I only applied to SSP=]

ueah, i read Catcher in the rye. People say its an emo book, but I love it for the same reason. It perfectly shows the innerworkings of a teen who hates the world. Its good you're reading literature.

I just finished re-reading Ender's Game/Shadow and all of their various sequels.

@nirvanatear: I love books, but mainly sci-fi. Some classics are good, others I can't stand.

I love reading books, but unfortunately my school final term exams are sucking the life out of me with school course books :(

Ender's series.. classic sci-fi! haha Orson Scott Card is one of my favorites... Greg Bear writes some good ones too.

I'm just starting Slaughter House Five, writing style is great, but I haven't gotten into it yet.

I still haven't gotten hold of Chris Paolini's Brisinger. I'm so depressed...

^ Don't be :) I personally thought it was terrible. And I'm mad that the series is now 4-part instead of a trilogy - Paolini must want to make extra money...

I've never read Greg Bear's books. Might have to give them a try...

No worries, nirvanatear. I love literature. Right now English is my favorite class, even if The Sound and the Fury is ... really weird.

But I love Catch-22! <3

I didn't really like Slaughterhouse Five, though, and I haven't heard of most of the rest of the books y'all mentioned.

wow I'm so glad there are so many who love books here=]]

book_worm: lol sci-fi is really cool but I never really started into it...

Time's Arrow: Vonnegut has a great sense of humor! I loved Slaughter House Five and God Bless You Mr. Rosewater back when I still read English as second language, and now i should re-read to get more out of his books

Coin: haha I will start Catch-22 after taking all 5 self-studied ap exams in may...

Good to see more self studied APs! What books are you gonna use? I have absolutely no idea what exactly I have to prepare.....
Just registered for the exams lol

haha I don't really read books :[
but I'm self studying physics C E/M

I sent my App in last week, but it all went in in parts, i didn't send everything at once.

Haven't heard my app is complete yet, should I be worried?

I sent it last Monday and I just got the notice that they had recieved all the materials. It took six days for me.

Hi {Applicant's Name}
This is to let you know that we have received all required parts to your SSP application. Your application will be reviewed by our Admissions Committee, and we will notify you of your status by email and/or letter as soon as possible thereafter. This process will take several weeks, so please be patient.

^ For a second I though you were posting an admit/rejet email, so I just had a minor heart attack. But I'm fine now :)

I just spent an hour reading last year's SSP thread. It looks like most people made it. Even a couple of the waitlisted people were eventually accepted. There is hope for us yet...

Yay for Quantam and his email!

yeah, I just got the email from SSP, too. I'm really nervous though =/. I don't think my gpa and test scores are up to standards. I already got rejected from TASP xD.

I already got rejected by RSI lol

I was going to apply to TASP but I got lazy and procrastinated and then got even more lazy and decided not to. I doubt I would have made it, though, so it all works out.

haha, TASP! The amount of interest I had in TASP did not even begin to merit working on that excessive application!

how much longer do you all think early deadline people have to wait? I stalked the previous thread (and felt like a complete creeper don't judge me please), and they started hearing march 15th. but I don't know when their due dates were...
