Summer Science Program (SSP) 2009

Haha every time I get an email in my inbox about this thread I get more excited for this summer.

secshisuhee, I'm from the greater Houston area. (:

@ coin- that's pretty cool!

Actually, if you're going to go to Socorro, you'll have Leslie as Site Director. Ask her about the All Night Club! We were a bunch of rule breakers, hahahaha. All of us almost got kicked out or died sometime during SSP.
Er... Not that dying is likely to happen. Some of us were just accident prone.

dam i shouldve planned my schedule better so i couldve applied to socorro, though ojai does sound more fun :P

Psh, Socorro is where it's at, babe.

I heard you guys had some ex-CIA operative come speak, among other folks. Sounded awesome. How often did guest speakers come, anyway?

@barem - It was something like once or twice a week. I think most of them were on Wednesdays? Not too sure.

You guys suck for posting stats. Eh! ;)

Seriously, are deferred ppl going to hear tomorrow? I was thinking they might receive email with second round applicants...

You think we know? Please, oh please let it be actual accepted/declined letters, though that makes little sense if they deferred us in the first place.

Bks85, have you found out what to do about new awards/stuff you to submit to SSP? I think now's our only chance or else I don't think we can do anything after March 20...

Yeah, can't previous SSPers enlighten us when deffered applicants recieve their results...or is the whole defferal process a new thing for SSP?

Sorry, QuantumArbiter, I don't know at all how to update or anything like that. :(
I've already emailed him many times; don't want to get him annoyed either..

agreed!! !

I'm pretty sure that deferred kids find out at the same time as the kids who apply in the second round.

It might have changed this year?

@bks85
Aw gosh darn it. I really wanted them to see the Caltech Sig Award. Few ppl actually get this. If anyone else is willing to ask on my behalf (and bks85's) we (or at least I) will be so greatful that if you get waitlisted and we accepted, we will be sure to...never mind, not going to happen. :p

deferred kids find out the same time as second round? nooo...
thats a long time..
i heard awhile back that they actually had 3 rounds?
one for early
one for middle
and one for later (those who submitted this week) or so..

They mentioned in their email last Friday that they'd "update" us deferred folk in about a week. It makes more sense that they'd wait until the end of the second or even the third round, but here's to hoping, or however the phrase goes.

i'd say there's a 75% chance we're getting an email tomorrow.

@QuantumArbiter, i think if someone finds out by tomorrow, we could probably still send it in. Someone said that Mr.Bowdon was loose on app deadlines..

edit: How long after submitting did you guys get results back? I only just mailed mine in on Wednesday; when can i expect a response?

edit: QuantumArbiter, if we end up both getting in, I am going to see you and give you a high five. (if same campus)

Tom and I got our emails on the same day, though his stuff was in a day before mine. Seems logical that they'd just take a few hours after the last deadline and checked every app, sending out confirmations as they went, no? I wouldn't worry yet.

Also, Quantum, do you think that that one award is going to help all that much? It sounds like if your teachers gave you a good enough rec to win that, it should all come out in the SSP one, right?

@barem, sorry i didn't mean confirmation emails, i meant acceptance/rejection letters.
