yeah i'm a sophomore...probably my only hope of getting me in is my short answers, which i've spent at least a month on.

i got an email saying i was on the alternate list...but idk if that means im deferred or waitlisted so yeah... what are the chances of getting in off the list tho? im a sophomore too lol

^ omg, i think that means you're on waitlist
what are your stats? =D (curious ^_^)

well im a sophomore at a new high school which just opened last year so that puts me kinda at a disadvantage and thats a lot of what i talked about in my applications.... along with my passion for science and math
My main extracurricular is that I play competitive golf both for my school on varsity (#2 player) as well as for the state team. I also do speech and debate and I have been pretty successful for my first year, which was this year. I am basically number one in my class gpa wise and I have founded the math club, american cancer society and I am members of a couple others like csf and interact. I volunteer at kaiser, a nearby hospital, once a week and I volunteered at Stanford hospital last summer along with doing cognitive neuroscience. I also dance, classical and jazz.

GPA: unweighted: 4.0
weighted: 4.57
Subject SAT
Math II: 780

how about you? what are your stats?

oh and i play competitive soccer lol

@ stanforgurl, that means your on the waitlist. From what other people have said there are still pretty good chances of getting in once you get waitlisted since a lot of people apply to other summer program and choose those over SSP. I think usually around 5-tenish people get in from off the waitlist. I got waitlisted too.

oh ok thanks! do you know around when we should know whether we got in or not? And do you know if they will send a rejection letter or will they just not respond? and good luck to you for getting off the waitlist

I'm not really sure but I'm assuming that they'll tell us something after the third round is over. But since we are waitlisted thay have to wait and see how many people who get in decide to actually go. So we might not hear anything till pretty late if people bail out late. Good luck to you too on getting off the waitlist :)

Wow. Selena, would you mind posting your stats? (don't have to, of course :) )

Good luck to everyone trying to get off waitlists.

Do third round decisions come out in around early april?

oh and in the email it said to assume that we will not be accepted if we don't hear anything by May 1, so maybe they don't tell us anything :/

omg its so nerveracking haha...
cuz i am pretty sure i got rejected from caltech yess...they had 750 applicants and only accept 30 so i was like wow haha

thats just cold lol -__-

eh, best of luck to all of the sophomores though, and be happy that you guys at the very least have another summer to fill with fun and productive activities =D

The YESS amissions letters come out on like april 15th right? I'm pretty sure I won't get into YESS, I want to go to SSP more anyway so I hope I get in. Oh, and IDK when third round comes out, sorry. I hope it's soon.

haha yeah we sophomores still have a little bit of time...

yeah the YESS letters come out i think in the first or second week of april but idk i think its mostly for minorities and considering i am indian, i am def not a minority lol

I'm a minority (Puerto Rican) but I kinda completed my YESS application in a super rush so it didn't come out very well, plus my stats aren't stellar to begin with.

(blush)
well...
sigh deep breath lol
what can i say....my school ave was A+ i guess (96-97% UW), NYS regents (if you heard of it) math- 99, bio-92 earth science-89. like i said, or i think i said, that i depend on my short answers, in which i wrote how my brother's reaction from SSP inspired me to apply, and for the achievements section i wrote:
3rd place NYC wide in math competitions (as freshman and sophomore)
one of the 2 ppl (the other was junior) to get on the NYC math team and go to ARML 2008 (as a freshman)
got 1st place in Interdisciplinary Research in Sigma Xi 2008 competition (is Sigma Xi "famous"?)
what else...oh did research in the summer with PhD of geology at york college (got a recommendation from him btw)
nothing else i guess...
oh PSAT...well math 93rd percentile and writing 98th percentile...nothing else about it...T_T

I feel that all that I do is update this list - 2010 applicants better thank me! I expect PMs of undying gratitude from every single one of you future applicants ;)

@Selena - nice ECs. Doesn't it suck how people like us can be good at math and bomb the math section of the PSATs?
