Summer Science Program (SSP) 2015

Totally agree @Newdle , I can not deny that I was worried about my scores, but clearly they take special situations into consideration. I explained in detail my progress in learning English on the “special situation question” :slight_smile: I am so happy right now.

Ay, should I wait on MITES? Even if accepted to MITES, I’m like… >90% sure I’d rather attend SSP. Advice anyone?

@Newdle Unless you think that you’re a serious candidate for MITES (ie are an URM, first gen, low-income, etc) I would commit to SSP if the deadline for commitment falls before the MITES notification date. I would bet though that MITES will announce before that date because there are many cross-applicants.

@Southpaw45 I’d say I stand competitively for MITES, but I love physics (and biology…but starting to love physics more…)…

Anybody here from Tinysota?

Got in for Boulder. Waiting on financial aid… and other programs, for that matter. Excited, nonetheless! @jchen98 @Newdle @toofless Maybe see you there! Not bad - 72 out of 748. Congrats everyone that got into NM.

@Newdle I’m waiting for MITES too. Do you know when will they send admission decisions?

@Luisfer12 I don’t know D: … I think it was April 25th last year?

@penguinsrfun yeah I got rejected but am hoping for MITES!

Do you guys think campus placing is random, by the way? I’ve been following past years’, and they look intentional o_O…

@Newdle what does that mean :o and lol are there any summer programs that are still accepting applications … rejected from sap :\ .might just do research with some prof.

@bowlofwhales
Not that it’s bad (I actually think it’s pretty cool, lol), but I’ve noticed a bit of difference in race-makeup. It might simply be due to the fact that most Asians live in California and thus put Westmont as their preferred campus.

@Newdle Tinysota as in MN? I am! But I got rejected lol. You’re so lucky!! Congrats!

@Newdle on the enrollment instructions, one of the pages is a personality quiz to help determine roommates, so not completely random

Anyone knows when alternates start to hear back from the program?

The email stated that alternates are usually contacted within a couple of weeks if a spot opens up. If you do not receive an email by the end of April then there is basically no chance of getting in.

I see thank you.

@adrimayjunejuly I definitely know roommates aren’t random, but are campus assignments?

@bouvardia Sorry to hear that :(…! Do I perhaps know you, though :o? Twin cities area?

@Newdle not exactly in TC area, but super close… :o

@Newdle they ask you to rank your preferences for campuses-- I ranked new Mexico first and that’s where I got in. So clearly, campus assignments aren’t completely random.

@Newdle If you select that you prefer a campus or cannot do one campus (because of scheduling usually) they consider you more for that given campus. In general though, I would assume that they want a distribution of abilities so the experiences (besides location and staff) are as similar as possible.
