I have a question about sending in scores. I took the PSAT twice. This year (as a junior) my overall score was higher but my math and CR subscores were both 75. Last year, I had a lower score overall (by 4 points) but I scored an 80 for both math and CR. Which report should I send?
@pendragonstone You have to send both.
Anyone else submitting their application this week? I’m submitting mine tomorrow!
Do we have to absolutely send ALL test scores? I’d have to retake to bump up my horrible 760 Math II if I do D: … I also had like a 187 PSAT my sophomore year, but it’s 228 this year, so I don’t know if that will be construed as “he finally cared about life, lol,” or a, “this guy’s not bright enough, probably.” I don’t want to sound whiny, but my freshman and sophomore years were pretty rough, as you can see :(…
Could you guys please chance me?
I’m half-Egyptian, half-Lebanese. Rising Senior. I will be full paying, that is of course if I get in.
I got a 193 PSAT, with a 73 in math, because I blew it off as I was told it was not that important for international students. I am taking the SAT in Jan and I am planning on getting a 2100+.
My Grades are not too hot because of freshman year biology and gym. (Ugghhh, how I hated that class)
I am currently taking 6 Ap Courses plus one self study.
Ap Calculus BC
Ap Physics 1
Ap Chemistry
Ap Lang
Ap Psych
Ap French Language
Self Study (AP Euro)
I have around a 3.9-3.95 (unweighted GPA for junior year)
I am currently taking the most rigorous course load in school’s history.
I am also self studying introduction to Computer science via HarvardX as well as Java Programming in my free time.
Planning on taking a combinatorial mathematics course from Tshingua University online.
I am the founder and president of the Mathematician Society (Sort of similar to Mu Alpha Theta)
Captain of Academic Games (Quiz Bowl team) - Participated in 4 international tournaments. Placed pretty well overall.
Head of the Egyptology Club
Class Treasurer
Under Secretary General for the School’s MUN Conference, biggest in the city.
Community Service here and there.
(Not Sure if the non-STEM related EC’s would help me i any way though)
My Teachers will right great recommendations, I am sure of it, and lets hope I whip up some pretty unique essays.
I think you have good GPA and 2100 will be fine (I heard from friends who went there)
Essay is the most important part I guess
Quick question…Do they receive SAT score in March? I think I have seen a post about someone sending score in March, but I can’t find which year it was…
@codinggeek399
If you are an international applicant, it will be too late for you to send your SAT scores. They do accept Feb. scores for international applicants though. I do not know about US applicants but it would be best that you contacted them directly. They give a swift reply to your mails.
Is this Harvard SSP?
@love2bnana No. This is the SSP organised by Caltech and MIT.
Should i be worried if i don’t have a very high PSAT score? I’ve got plenty of personal qualifications but i’m an average test taker. Does anyone know of anyone who got in without super high scores?
I think is depends on what you mean by not having a “very high” PSAT score means. I am pretty sure that if your personal qualifications are strong enough it will offset a lower PSAT score but only up to a point.
Hi! I got a 165 on my psat, but got a 67 on the math portion. Do I still have a chance? I know applying as a sophomore is a slim chance, but is there hope for me?
@athenanv13 I would say that a 67 is way to low by the SSP standards. You are still a sophomore. You could attend another camp this year and you could apply for SSP next year with better scores.
@athenanv13 while mumbai98 has a point that your scores are on the low side, they are by no means “way too low”. I know of someone who got an 1800 on the SAT and was admitted. It all depends on what else makes you special. On the other hand, no matter what your grades, you will need to have some rockin’ other qualities to make it through as a sophomore…
Hey all! So on the application sheet, it says, “If you receive a test score report after the deadline, you may email it to us.” How long after the deadline do you think this applies for? I was planning on taking the January SAT, but it got postponed to February 21, and the SAT Customer Service said that scores will come out around March 10-11 for us. Do you think if I received a test score at this point it would be too late to email it to the admissions office of SSP? What if I took the March SAT?
@alzhao both dates are probably fine. Results don’t go out until mid/late-april, so as long as you send march scores as soon as you get them, they will count.
What is Harvard SSP?
2014 alumna here to answer questions as well!
@athenanv13, I don’t think you would automatically be counted out for your scores. However, acceptances for sophomores are very hard to come by (we had one at my campus, don’t know about the other). The problem sets and lectures of SSP consist mainly of calculus and physics, and many sophomores lack that preparation simply because they haven’t had access to those classes yet. If you think that you are prepared to do the work and can convey that in your application, there’s no disadvantage to applying.
@alzhao You should email SSP and let them know that your test date was postponed.
@uesmomof2 Harvard SSP is a different program! This is just SSP (The Summer Science Program).
@Southpaw45 Hi! How was your SSP experience?
- How hard is it for internationals to get in? How many do get in each year?
- Does being proficient in Python prior to going to the camp help?
