Summer Science Program (SSP) 2020

@YSPAReject which ECs did you write about in your essays

hold on

What is the commit date for the ones who got accepted?

1590 SAT, 1510 PSAT, only 4 exams taken, and a mix of 4s and 5s, not very good extracurriculars, I did have a research topic, with decent teacher rec letters. 4.0 UW, and 4.2 weighted, class rank 15/790 at a mid-competitive high school.
edit: accepted for biochem

@tidalove sure, I’d be interested in knowing which topics you wrote about in your essays

Accepted astro

accepted to biochem!

Stats: 1570 sat (800 math), 1490 psat, APs Chinese 5, principles 5, physics 1 5, chem, Lang, comp sci, physics 2
Junior at public magnet school
Pretty good ECs plus research at NASA internship last summer
Essays: I wrote a lot about quirky ways that I show my love of science. One of my essays was about lock picking.

accepted to biochem!!

accepted into biochem with 4.0 (4.9 W), 1590 SAT, 1500 PSAT, 800s on math 2/bio/chem, and 5s on 5 APs (including bio and chem). pretty much all my ECs were STEM-related, some research experience from last summer but I don’t have any science fair experience.

I think only one out of the two recs was good and my essays weren’t outstanding but I was pretty happy with most of them. also for my supplemental materials I attached my resume.

hope this helps lol, you can PM me if you want to know more about essay topics or ECs or whatever

also @ fellow biochem admits I’m excited to meet everyone! even though it’ll prob be over zoom LMAO rip

@asr0302 for the first essay I wrote about electromagnetism, which I studied out of Purcell for science bowl and science olympiad; for #2 I wrote about writing, in my free time I write scifi and fanfic lmao; for #3 I wrote about how my family is really against me doing science, but at the same time, their work ethic inspires me and has molded me into the person I am; for #4 there were a few things I mentioned, but my main point was that I’d never been around other people who worked as intensely as I do, and I want to experience that and see how far it can push me; for #5 I wrote about the obstacles in my sophomore year, how I navigated the challenges of becoming captain of science bowl and hardships in my home life.

Can someone pm me the chat?

my status page is still empty…anyone else?

Hi, I just got put on the wait list for biochem and I’m bummed out. I wanted to know if anyone is considering not attending ssp because I’m curious if I should still have a bit of hope left or just give up. In no way am I encouraging anyone to not attend (I’m sure you all worked very hard). Thanks
