Hello everyone,

I'm a rising junior and I've decided to look into summer science programs/internships to take during the summer of this year. The only problems is that I turn 18 in the fall (I had to take a gap year during illness etc) and I'm finding that some programs such as SSP only cater to students with a max age of 17 :(

If anyone could show me some prestigious/fun/rewarding/similar to SSP summer programs I'd be most appreciative. :D

BTW for some extra info This year I'm taking over 6 AP classes including AP Physics C, AP Calculus BC, and AP Environmental Science. Haven't taken the SAT yet but I got a 217 on the PSAT during junior year (72 in math, 70 in CR, and 75 in writing).
I'll definitely have taken the SAT Reasoning before I apply and am hoping for 2250+
given that I'll be studying for it/am 2 yrs older than the time I took the PSAT.

Thanks guys!

Have you looked into RSI? It is the holy grail of science programs, but I’m not sure if they have an age cap similar to SSP.

Hmm…
There is the option of looking into internships. Some are extremely prestigious. One such program I know of is the National Institute of Health’s Summer Internship Program (SIP):

They offer stipends as well so you are not only getting awesome research experience, but you are being awarded cash for it as well (looks like $1,300 if the intern has not yet graduated).
This I am sure does not have an age limit as low as 18 because they accept applications from high school students, undergrads, and grad students. Though, of course, this makes it that much harder to get into because you are competing against all those other students and research experience is looked most highly upon.

So if you can get some research experience in now (or already have) that might be a good option for you.

Thank you for replying moodragonx!

I’ll definitely look into those programs
