I'm interested in science (particularly biomed research) and speaking and want to get into some competitive program this summer. So far, I'm thinking about:

NIH (20% chance, any alums have tips for admission?)

Columbia Program (competitive? Plus you have to pay, so that's not that great)

Rockefeller Research Program (it's not very competitive though, for some reason, anyone know anything?)

I want my focus to be on something that would help with RSI, SSP app. So, what else is there? Also, does any of you know anything about the Columbia Science Honors Program (not summer, I know)? How competitive is entry, what does it take? Thanks.

columbia takes about 1400/1600 applicants. plus, it's really expensive. i heard it's fun, but may not be what you want if you're just trying to pad your resume.

Here are a couple that are open to sophomores, both are free and very competitive:

Texas Tech Clark Scholars (pays small stipend)
Cornell Nanobiotechnology Internships (pays part of travel)

Roamorse: Yeah, that's what I thought.

Warbler: That program is for the summer after junior year. Thanks for the input though.

entomom: Same problem, both programs are not for the summer after sophomore year.

Unless the program explicitly says that they only accept juniors, you should still try. Amazing things do happen. For SSP, you can send in an application as a sophomore even though their preference is for juniors. Some sophomores have gone. I got deferred as a sophomore which meant i would automatically get accepted as a junior given i don't start doing anything horribly bad.

Wow, what did you do? How could you possibly have been deferred as a sophomore? I haven't even found someone willing to be a mentor yet...let alone done anything scientific... What were your stats at that time?

Hi all - I'm starting to look for the same kind of program for the summer
after sophomore year, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The Baylor program looks really good but they only take about 10
kids and they seem to be all rising seniors.

I think there are another threads about it, I will try to find them,
