what are some good ones that arent extremely hard to get into like rsi. i would like something that is research based but i dont have any prior research experience

check out RIBS at UChicago

i did a biomedical research program at upenn, which also has a physics program and a forensic science program as well

Why not email a local professor and ask (nicely) if you can work in his lab? Some of them like high school students, especially competent ones -- they're free labor. I personally did this and expect to coauthor at least two papers by the end of high school, without any previous research experience.

matt mcgann (admissions officer for MIT) has a good list on his blog, though some of these programs are hard to get into...

last year i went to the SSTP program at the University of Iowa (6-week research internship), so PM if you're considering that. i had no prior research, but it was a pretty awesome experience.

wow, nice list abhim89! I haven't seen it before.

has anyone actually been to the clark summer program? what about the michigan state one?

i applied to the michigan state one and i got deferred->rejected :( from what i've heard though, it's very prestigious (my psat at the time was 213, which may have contributed to my rejection)

btw, a couple that i was accepted to but didnt attend were the garcia materials science research scholar program in long island new york and the boston university summer research internship program, so im somewhat familiar with admissions there...

hmm, research at the clark scholars program seems very interesting, especially their area of philosophical research, any more alumni of the summer programs on the list?

abhim, where did you end up going? and is the michigan state biased towards applicants from michigan? thanks

haha scroll up a bit i said i went to the SSTP program at the University of Iowa (yeah i know, middle of nowhere but it was pretty cool)... anyway, there's a slight bias to michigan residents but they still accept plenty of out-of-staters

I know that several of the mathematics summer programs have no real grade restrictions.

Which summer programs would you recommend for rising sophomores?

Any replies? None?

ross, hampshire, mathcamp

clark scholars at texas tech university isn't bad

and it pays well

My son went to HCSSiM and loved it. It's a place for folks who like to play with their math. They have chats from time to time on AoPS.

HCSSiM is da bomb. I wrote like half my college essays on how awesome it was.

You were considered rather young if you were a rising sophomore, though. And the later you do it, the more you learn.

has anyone done the student internship program (for high schoolers as well as college students) at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio? how was it and which subject did you do research on?
