disclaimer: this was copied from another thread that i wrote, so some of it may seem out of context....oh and if you see a reference to guardianangel, that's another collegeconfidential user who is also a classmate and friend of mine

for those of you wondering what haas is like: i'd say for a transfer student, summer session shouldn't be too hard. courses are far from guaranteed A's, but landing a B is pretty easy (i haven't gotten my grades yet, but projecting them). this all also depends on which instructors/gsi (graduate student intern...essentially a teacher's asst) you get. guardianangel had the same instructor and gsi as i for busn ethics, but for communications, he had someone who i heard was more difficult. the school kisses your butt and i like that. does that make me a haas-hole? no. it's not my fault if i get a bunch of cool, free stuff and words of praise. also, bear in mind that haas fell in the rankings from 3rd in the nation to 11th, so it's giving a 110% to get its ranking back up. new dean and new grading curve system to make things competitive.

the students (continuing ones) are normal people. they aren't some crazy robot geniuses or selfish, backstabbing bullies. some really care about their grades, others don't really give a crap. in my experience, they didn't look down on transfer students....some people i made friends with in class didn't even know i transfered until i brought it up a few weeks into the semester. don't feel you can't compete with these guys. sure, some will be far better than you, but i guarantee you that you will be far better than some. and some of these guys are flat out retarded and i question how they got in....lol

haas doesn't expect you to be some business guru from day one. my busn ethics professor joked about how the only thing that most students in the class knew about business is that it started with a "b." the fall semester will definately be more difficult because students will be taking upper div courses in areas that are not busn related necessarily....you have to take 18 units of non-busn upper div classes to graduate.

i'll try to keep you guys posted and good luck on apps!

thanks for sharing. I am transfering this year too to berkeley. I also feel like I can't complete with student in UCB (still fell that way...), hopefully it will all work out!

hey victor lawl posting from LA WOOT WOOT
there are crazy people tho... that "guy" that raises his hand...
and how about that mr sanfrancisco dude.
i heard from continuing students he remembers everything he reads like photographic memory...

yeh my com class was way harder, the kids in my class were also crazy tough and smart. but hemker gave way more reading and quizes =D
well i did well in com tho ^ - ^

btw i got into my waitlisted class YAY !

yeh and there are a lot of crappy transfers who tarnish our reputation. they go out get drunk and get into trouble.
victor i saw one of them in some office on the day of my move out. u know who they are ^ - ~

ahhh i see i was in davidson 8th floor. dude i got a B+ in my accounting class.... the curve is harsh. I got an A on the midterm and the final; messed up on one midterm and got a B but I only got a B+.....

So say I want to double major in business at Haas and econ in L&S, do I need to have the prereqs done before I transfer for econ (which is basically only Calculus II if I've fulfilled all of the Haas prereqs) and that's it?

iono about double majoring for transfers. i believe that most transfers will not double major becuz we already have a huge disadvantage against continuing students as in they got a ton of core classes done and most already have their 18 units of upper division non biz units done as well.
then many CCC do not have classes that satisfy the AC requirements and some dont even have classes that satisfy the AH&I graduation requirements as well.

u better plan ur coursework if its feasible.
haas u have to graduate within 2 years. if u double major u get 1 more semester.

Yeah, but I heard for econ transfers that they're not put into the major until the end of the first semester when they've completed some of the required courses with a certain GPA. I suppose Haas transfers who want to double major in econ have to go through this same process as well? Seems a bit too much now that I think about it. Econ is very competitive at Cal.

On the Haas application, when you submit coursework to the 9 breadth requirements, was the format a "drop down" box, or do you type in what you took yourself?

BTW congrats, you must be excited to start.

actually busn profs discouraged us from majoring in econ too...if you want to double major, i'd advise choosing a completely different field.

as for the "drop down" box question: most of it allowed you to type in what you want to. probably the grade your received and number of units the course was worth were chosen from drop down boxes....so if you took an anthro course:

vrlobo88, thanks for the response. I was just asking because my CC considers Anthro 1 to be a physical science while Haas said they leave it up to your own discretion as to what classes count for what breadth requirements. (I'm intending to use it to full fill and social and behavioral science req.

hey victor i heard the ranking dropped cuz haas didn't serve caviar and oysters to the recruiters LOL
like seriously i think the professor meant it
btw see u tomorrow =D
well i'll move in on sunday... see u sunday then =D
