We, a group of 3 internationals, are really interested in taking up the ‘Computer Networks’ course offered by Boston University during the summer of 2018.
However, this being the first study abroad trip for each of us, we’re quite clueless about the application procedure and university requirements.
Any advice, ranging from costing of the entire trip to campus life of BU, would be really helpful.
The course on the website also states a few pre-requisites for the course. Wondering how we can fulfill those.
PS - We’re in the 6th Semester of Computer Science Engineering at our university, if that helps.
How is your English? The answers to your questions are all on the Boston University website. Basically, there are no university requirements or application for admission just to take a summer course, and all you need to satisfy pre-requisites for the Computer Networks course is the consent of the instructor. The instructor will consent once you describe how you have already taken courses similar to the prerequisites. That would include an intro to computer science course typically covering Python and possibly Java (equivalent of CS 112) and a computer systems course involving C (equivalent of CS 210). If you have studied MapReduce and Hadoop (equivalent of CS 350) that is even better. The instructor who needs to consent is Abraham Matta, whose contact information is also on the website. The cost of the course is $2,720. The website gives detailed instructions for how international students can register, and also provides an email address and a form for asking questions. See direct links below. Boston University is located in the heart of Boston, a major city of over four million people, with public transportation options on campus. I have included a Googlemaps link directly to the Boston University admissions office, and from there you can use street view to see the area around campus. You would be able to explore all of Boston, and also hop on a train and visit New York City and other cities if you wanted to on the weekends.
