Hey everyone,

Im a transfer student who will be doing their first summer session at cal. I was wondering if anyone took this class before? extra brownie points if youve taken it with gailmard. Im very curious how this class will be. what to expect, will i be able to take another poli sci class that same session or will that be overwhelming? any advice would be awesome. thanks. oh btw, im totally bad at stats :-( i hope its not too math oriented...

PS3 is not a very difficult class in general in terms of difficulty of material. But the majority of people who take it just don’t like the subject so they find it difficult to pay attention/care. I took it with Stoker who is generally the most popular for that class and I still had a difficult time with it just because I found it so boring.

You have the option of spending less time on it with a professor that’s relatively well-liked. Just take it. My friends enjoyed the class.

THANKS so much for your input. anyone else feel free to chime in!

Hey I am taking the same course with the same professor, I was wondering if you could give me some pointers about this class? I am also not good with Stat and was wondering if you can give me advice on how best to prepare for the midterms/final? Any advice would be much appreciated as this is also my first summer at Cal. Thank you.

CalLove: I’m in Gailmard’s summer section of this class now–I’m assuming you are too. The professor’s comments on the first day about self-fulfilling prophecies are, I think, very applicable. I wouldn’t be too worried. Just stay on top of the material.

Are you new to Cal? Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to get together and study, if you need any pointers on Cal generally, etc.

I’ve taken the exact same class/professor during summer last year. It was great. I had Abi as a GSI, one of the best GSIs I ever had. Keep in mind that I failed practically every math/stat test in high school but still came out with an A.

Gailmard is engaging, the GSIs were great (don’t know about this year’s) and as long as you try your best to power through the long lectures, it’ll be fine. The best part of the course for me was having fantastic classmates. We hung out in study groups together (even though I came into the course knowing absolutely no one) and did the problem sets together after class in Cafe Milano. All in all, a great summer and a great class.
